Hey guys, tried looking for a similar thread but nothing popped up on the search function.

I’ve been looking into doing my coaching badges, at least Level 1, purely just as a hobby and because it’s sonething that interests me. There are many available courses since I’m close to the Lancashire area but I’ve put it off for years however just seen there’s a course in May about 5 minutes from my house.

Was just wondering if anyone has done it before, fairly recently if possible, and could tell me if it’s any good. Is it worth £160? Did you go on to do further levels? Any tips/prep work you did?

Something I looked into years back, like you as hobby and to gain a better understanding but never got round to it

I’d just go for it. You’ll probably enjoy it and want to go to the next level

I did both my footy and rugby Level 1 badges a few years ago mate.

You do a few evenings and a couple of weekends.

The input is mostly about making training fun and interesting for kids, to keep them playing for as long as possible, rather than coaching as such.

Both the FA and the RFU did studies as to why kids left school and then tailored the low level badges to reflect this.

No pass or fail - unless you say or do something really outrageous !!!!

Ah cheers mate, I wasn’t expecting anything complex from Level 1, I just didn’t want to commit some evenings and Sunday’s for something I walk away thinking “that was pointless”.

Unless you are going to get involved with kids footy, rugby etc there is no point in doing them ( imo )

I was involved in coaching at my lads footy and rugby teams, so I had to do them - the clubs paid.

I had a laugh on both the courses, but I eventually walked away from coaching due to some of the parents being totally insane !!!!

Well I’m only 27 in a good job but if I enjoy it then it’s something to consider in the future if it goes well.

Isn't that relatively expensive, unless you have a club that is willing to pay it for you.

My friend has them until Uefa A (405 hours and 1900 €; and you have to do a short internship for a foreign club). And to get there there were four prestages. The first one being if you want to coach 6 to 9 y/o's etc... And that was 60 hours and 200 €. It only gets fun (according to him) starting from Uefa B when you're allowed to coach 8v8 (so U11-U13).

Takes a lot of time to get there. He's a (physics) teacher but also a coach for a youth team at AA Gent and a football academy.
