GrandOldTeam Speak To Tim Howard
[imga=right]http://www.grandoldteam.com/images/howardside.png[/imga]Lisa Thomas of GrandOldTeam visited Finch Farm to interview Everton and USA goalkeeper Tim Howard.
Howard, speaking to mark the announcement of 188BET as the official betting partner of Everton FC, gave his views on aspirations heading into the new season, the backing he received from English Evertonians at the World Cup and the summer transfer window.
What are your ambitions for the forthcoming season?
Our ambition should always be to fight for the top four. We have been a club who has finished in the top eight consistantly for the past 7 years or so, we shouldn't be aiming any lower then a European finish, it has become harder with the money some clubs are spending such as Manchester City but we have a good squad here who are a confident bunch.
What's the best goal you've ever conceded?
None, they were all crap (Tim laughs). There is none that spring to mind, probably someone from long range who has blasted it in, Matty Taylors at Fratton Park was a bad goal to conceed.
What would you say was the best atmosphere you've ever played in?
No questions, USA vs Mexico, there was 110,000 fans there and the atmosphere was very intense, there is alot of hatred in that fixture, they hate us a lot and it just spills onto the pitch from the stands, all the players get stuck in. It would be great if we could get one over them soon in their own back yard.
Leighton Baines has recently said he would like the transfer window to shut tomorrow, do you agree?
(Tim laughs) did he now? I would probably disagree, of course every club wants to keep their best players, and when everyone is fit we have a great bunch but I would like to see and am confident that we will see about two or three more signings before the transfer window closes. I can't comment on who that would be or in what positions as im not a transfer guru, so you'd have to ask the gaffer about that but about two or three more signings whilst keeping hold of our best players would be a great transfer window. The true Everton supporters would know never to doubt the gaffer in a transfer window, he comes up with the goods time and time again.
How did it make you feel knowing that some Everton supporters where cheering you on against England in the world cup?
(Tim laughs) It was a great feeling, the Everton fans are a crazy passionate bunch and it's mad to think that they were supporting the USA because of myself and Landon, therefore going against their own country. It gave me alot of confidence going into the games knowing I had full support back here in England from people at Everton.
Best player you've ever played with?
I would say both Ryan Giggs and Roy Keane at Manchester United, they were both the best in what they did and put everything into playing for that jersey.
