What is the point of them, seriously? They just agree or try to justify everything.

Dermot Gallagher is just talking complete nonsense on SSN this morning as per usual, and there's another one on ESPN too. If they aren't going to be objective about it then I just can't see any point in bringing in a professional to do it.

Was about to post exactly this. He hasn't got a f*cking clue.

To be fair I think Halsey has done OK for BT Sports in the first few weeks of the season. They go to him during the live coverage straight after an incident to give his view & I think it gives a decent insight & he's generally correct.

Celebrity wannabe referees are a cancer on the game, prime example, Poll. They ruin games to satisfy their own ego.

There is just something about top level referees that makes me feel uncomfortable. I am thinking of Mike Myres "Carnies, smell of cabbage" line from the movie. Someone has to do it < please remember these tosserz are now being well paid> but do they have to act like trumped up public school headmasters? And please stop the clasped handshakes on camera with the other members of the Blind Institute before kick off. Do that inside you ****s.

Yeah halsey often disagrees with the match ref when commentating on bt.
But of course refs are all ****e and ruin games to make themselves the centre of attention, and they're biased towards the "big" teams and home teams.

Being a referee can be fairly lucrative these days. You get teenagers taking it up to make extra pocket money. They can make about £50-£100 a weekend from doing games/tournaments etc. They then progress through their levels etc. and if they reach the top it’s a career.

What you are finding is more and more young lads going in to that as a result. Is it then a good a bad thing that you have referees who have never really played a proper game of football in their lives, as their whole footballing life has been in the centre of the pitch with the whistle.

There's an ex ref for the NFL that belongs to I think Fox and he has no problems in telling everyone what the refs did wrong. It's quite refreshing and it'd be nice if someone English had the balls to do similar. But then he's not gonna get to hang around with his old buddies at industry functions.

Yes, Mike Perreira. It's a great source, having someone comment who actually knows the rules.

Having said that, NFL rules are more elaborate than FIFA, so there's more need to have someone explain it. I can't imagine what insight Mark Halsey would have, quite honestly.
