Not enough subscribers. It's not paying for itself. So why bother charging anyone?

Good move by the club.

Cool

I paid for it last summer, was pretty cool to watch the friendlies on there. Didn't seem to use it much though after that

Good move by the club.

By the way, they should have been taking in about £200,000 per year over the past two years which did pay for itself.

It suggests they're moving to a Corporate Sponsor model of providing the service, and the plus being a greater audience base.

i.e. provide for free and have sponsors appear within/parallel to the stream paying the club a fee.

Win / Win for club and sponsors.

This is cool I use this for watchin highlights and the archives are great(y)

Everton TV

Everton TV will be free after 1st july, as stated on the official Everton FC facebook page.

For those without facebook:
From July 1, evertontv will become FREE for all registered users of evertonfc.com. Further details about the move from a subscription service to the FREE offering will be on evertonfc.com later today.
On the question "are they doing this because less and less people subscribe":
...far from the case - we reached a peak number of subs in 2010/11. We feel it is the right way to go for the delivery of online video.
Content-wise:
The level of content will, if anything, increase on what is currently available. In terms of monetising the service, there are alternative options other than subscription.
...the final decision on which pre-season games will be streamed has yet to be made - although we hope to stream as many as possible based on feed and outside broadcast costs. The pre-season live matches will be available on a Pay Per View basis. This will be the only element of evertontv that will incur a cost from July 1 - and there will be no charges for content, highlights goals etc throughout the 2011/12 Premier League season.

Thoughts?

Also, what will be the catch with that service then?

would love to know the actual figures for this.

More:
...your subscription will automatically be cancelled although you will continue to have access using your existing log-in from today onwards. Premier League broadcast restrictions mean we can't show league games live. However, we will continue to provide extended 20 minute highlights of all games at the earliest opportunity based on regulations - midnight on the day of a game in UK and EU and 24 hours later to the Rest of the World. evertontv will also continue to provide free live audio commentary of all competitive first-team games.

...all highlights provided since August 2010 will continue to be available, plus selected matches from previous seasons. Certain highlights were removed in the revamp because the quality did not match the new service capabilities and the cost of re-encoding such a wealth of archive was extensive. We will continue to add classic games to the service on a regular basis.

Matt you know far too much to be just a forum poster, why for you become a consultant for the club. You have it all worked out.

Because they wouldn't pay me enough

They could pick a number and I'd quadruple it. Twice.

They should defo speak to GrandOldTeam though and allow him to encode the footage and sponsors into this site (with a cut).

Lets face it. This community is substantial enough to.
