No mate, he was still and Everton player but had played his last game before joining Barcelona. One season Andy Gray, the next Gary Lineker.

Just found this

Planet World Cup - 1986 - Squads - Scotland

Sharp number 18.

It says the Scotland coach was Alex Ferguson. Apparently Jock Stein had a heart attack at the play off match against Wales and died shortly after, so SAF took charge for the world cup. Didn't remember any of that.

Gary Stevens, Peter Reid, Trevor Steven and Golden Boot winner Gary Lineker. Also at that tournament, the Blues' post-war record goalscorer Graeme Sharp was part of Alex Ferguson's Scotland side.
