Everton's underachievement since 1995 and our ambitions for the future

No league cup final since 1984 despite always being a top flight club in that time is another cup stat that beggars belief.Non league Tranmere have even reached one in that time.

Id rather be an established first division side then win an FA cup every now and then
Fixed that for ya. Enough if this flowery language. Are we paid, individually by sky, to rename the league we've been in for all but, what is it, 5 years?

After crashing out of the cup in the 3rd round to confirm our 22nd trophyless season since 1995, I had a look at how other clubs had done in the cup competitions compared to us. I had a look at how many major finals each team had been in which includes the FA Cup, League Cup and any major European Competition (CL, UEFA Cup/Europa League and the ECWC). This is the list:

10+ - Chelsea (16), Man United (14), Liverpool (13), Arsenal (11)
5 - Middlesbrough and Tottenham
4 - Aston Villa and Man City
3 - Leicester
2 - Birmingham, Cardiff, Newcastle, Portsmouth, Wigan
1 - Blackburn, Bolton, Bradford, Crystal Palace, Everton, Fulham, Hull, Leeds, Millwall, Southampton, Stoke, Sunderland, Swansea, Tranmere, West Ham

It's an eye opener to see just how poor we've done in both the league and the cups. I appreciate that getting to a final is not success, but to see some of the sides ahead/level with us on that list is embarrassing. Boro's 5 finals is a shock, but to be behind the likes of Cardiff, Portsmouth and Wigan in final appearances with the latter 2 having both won the FA Cup in that time, highlights just how much we've underachieved.

Something our fans often complain about is how we get overlooked in the media. Even ignoring our mediocre league finishes for the vast majority of those 22 seasons, it's not surprising that media stations and other fans talk us down and ridicule us. This shows how far we've fallen behind the other big clubs in the league, especially the Sky 4 who all have 10+ final appearances, with European Finals included in that. I am interested to know if people think we can change this under Moshiri and what people expect to see from Everton in the next 5-10 years?

Personally, I expect (hope):

This season: Pull away from the sides around us and finish 7th quite comfortably
1-3: Get to another cup final, fight it out for 4th-6th, regulars in Europe
3-10: Move stadium, win at least 1 domestic trophy, genuinely challenge for the top 4.

At this stage, I think it would be wishful thinking to suggest we can start winning titles with 6 clubs having bigger resources than us, but I see no reason why longer term we can't challenge for a top 4 finish consistently and end our trophy drought.
Not read the whole thread but since 1995 all but 5 of those clubs have been relegated. Some more than once.
