Everton's 'over-performers'

I think it was Shearer on Saturday's MOTD that followed the frequently traveled media path of drivel that goes something like this - "Moyse, got the best out of his Everton side. He got each player to perform 10% above his ability".

I understand how at the beginning of Moyse's reign this may have been true, but to apply this to the Everton side Martinez has inherited is laughable.

Firstly, I can't think of any player who over performed last season. It certainly wasn't Naysmith, Osman, Jelavic or even Pienaar.

We don't need over achievers. We have a quality side who will achieve great things from the talent they possess.

I believe the change in manager this year will have a profound effect on how the media view Everton. The media will have to bin their 'huff and puff Everton handbook' that still lingers from Royle's dogs of war days. Instead, they will have to come to accept that Everton are a great footballing team with some outstanding individuals who will get results by playing beautiful football.

Over perform?

Jelavic,Pienaar,Heitinga,Barkley,Kev,Naismith and Osman where all playing 10% above there best then we really are goosed this season

I heard some bulb on Talksport's Press Pass saying he didn't enjoy Moyes's Everton and the industrial hoof ball footy he got us to play, well f me, I don't think he's watched us for a few years, I don't understand how blinkered some "experts" are.

you're the one blinkered if you don't think we did play hoofball even in the last few years. Our games where we played good stuff were very intermittent, it was by no means how we played all the time. We resorted to long ball plenty the last few seasons. so he is correct.

The media are by and large idiots who trot out lines. This is especially so with ex-players who have largely achieved their media position by virtue of being an ex-player and a 'personality'.

Sorry? I think to label us like Stoke as this guy basically did is totally incorrect. You obviously didn't listen to the show which is what I was commenting on. He most certainly is not correct and neither are you.

I was replying to your post, not heard the show, apologies if i've taken it out of context. I just don't think our football even 2/3rds of last season was anything to write home about.

Oh ok, no probs (y)

I think we try to play a nice passing game when we're in the opposition's half for the last few years now, especially with Pienaar, Baines, Coleman, Osman, Mirallas, Fellaini and Jelavic all looking to link up a lot with 5 yard passes. The problem we've always had is playing that final ball through. I'll admit we hoof it from the back a bit, I guess it was Moyes wanting to play it safe, it's not always a bad thing, but up their end, we keep it on the deck a lot.

Honestly though mate, industrial hoof-ball was just what we played under large parts of Moyes stewardship, even in recent years.

We were alright to watch in my opinion anyways pal. I know we used to play that way (Bent up front on his own) but it has steadily got better. I expect Martinez to do a better job with it in any event.
