Everton's main fault = Lack of movement.

Well I haven't posted on here for a little while, but after watching that display against the Barcodes I feel that we need to discuss something thats starting to look more and more obvious.

We have a massive lack of movement when on the ball.

Heres the attack that started today.

-------------------------------------------------- Saha ---------------------------------------------------
---- Drenthe --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Coleman -
-------------------------------- Rodwell -------- Osman --------- Neville ------------------------------

Now looking at that its obvious that it's very defensive minded. We needed to be in all fairness as we were playing an in-form team away from home.

However, to play in this system you must have movement upfront, something which Osman should of offered. However it seemed that he was forced back during the game when Heitinga got injured. Osman is NOT a central midfidler by any accounts, he's not strong enough nor quick enough.

By the end of the game we ended up with this.

-------------------------------------------------- Saha ---------------------------------------------------
-------------------------- Drenthe ----------------- Cahill--------------------------------- McFadden --
--------------------------------------------- Osman --------- Rodwell -----------------------------------

Looking at this, it looked pretty attacking. However because of the fact that Heitinga was taken off for Cahill that meant that Osman dropped in deep, a position where he cannot play! This left gaping holes in the midfield whenever Newcastle retained the ball, allowing Ba and co to run into open space.

Since Arteta's transfer it's becoming more and more obvious as we don't have a player who can retain possesion and pop them balls around. This then allowed players to run off him into channels (Baines, Pienaar, Cahill and Osman) creating more chances.

Investment is needed

FFS it's not about players or formations. It's about instilling the conviction in your team to go out and have a fcking go regardless of who you choose in whatever formation.

Drenthe can be a bit of a liability, but at least he tries and make things happen. It's worth persevering for the games when he's got his tail up and beasting full backs.

Saha was hideous today, absolutely awful. Throw Coleman into the mix too. One thing I didn't get was why Moyes persisted with Coleman on the left and Drenthe on the right for so long. Taylor had the mark of Drenthe and Coleman clearly wasn't comfortable on the left. Puzzling and frustrating in equal measures.

Osman was crap too.

I concur.

Amen. TBF, though, that Simpson lad was fcuking gash and either of them should have ragged the arse out of him.

None of our players Move until they have the ball, its really bad.

There was one today, where saha passed to drenthe, on the counter, and then just strolled after passing the ball, you need to carry on running Saha you lazy *******

John Heitinga cant play centre half in the English premier league because like ourselves 85% of teams play most things long to target men and Johnny is poor in the air, Best and Ba bullied Heitinga , if Distin would have started this game we would have at least got a draw, how Leon Osman was stiill on the pitch at the end is beyond me , he was like a little butterfly floating everywhere but doing nothing , Rodwell again ( mr safety ) not bad first half and went missing second half ,

When we used to play on these big pitches like today and city with Arteta and Pienarr we used to keep the ball limiting our opposition chances because we dominated possession , we've now got no ball players in our team where a shadow of 2 years ago, as for striker options we are crying out for 2 because big Dennis may as well be a ball boy , last point if your going to bring Mc Fadden on with 10 to go surly put him up front , playing Faddy wide with his engine is like playing Yobo in goal , it's going to be a relegation battle this season :-(

To be honest, I've enver been a fan of McFadden but I think he did quite well when he came on.

I agree Number_25 there's no movement...the other thing I think we do too much of is play facing our own goal. Rarely do I see a player of ours trap the ball and turn and face the opposition goal whn they have the opportunity. It's usally backwards or sideways passes.

We need midfielders and strikers who can trap and turn

it for this reason alone (though there is many many like it ) why we have hit a brick wall and DM style, tactics( call it whatever you may ) is to keep us in the prem rather than looking to compete at the top0
