Everton's Captain

I agree, but some players seem to just go mysteriously downhill after being given the captaincy. And you can never have enough motivation - captains can often add this when dragging teams back from the brink of defeat. You can't imagine Baines screaming and geeing players up in the same way that Scott Parker or John Terry do.

Hilariously, it was Upson who captained West Ham and King who captained Spurs. Which kind of makes RFUS' point about the lack of importance of who actually has the armband for him.

Neville as club captain but, start to fade him out of the first team and use him as a back up, and maybe Gibson as captain when Neville isn't playing, sure he'd make a good captain, right in the heart of the team!

There are no outstanding candidates. Of our guaranteed starters the committed ones are too nice (Baines, Jagielka) or too old (Distin, Neville) and the nasty ones have all either walked out on us (Pienaar) or talked about it (Heitinga, Fellaini). Gibson, Jelavic or even Naismith could end up being good shouts, but I don't feel like I know enough of their characters to say either way yet.

What about Junior? Has anyone ever captained us on their debut? Did Neville?

I would genuinely welcome Captain Anichebe just for the popcorn.

I agree with Baines and I disagree with people who say you need a shouter as a captain. Lineker and Will Carling captained the rugby team successfully and both were quiet men.

Plus it might help us keep Baines here a little longer - I still think he could go if United put in a bid for him but being captain of the club may encourage him to stay...

Cap'n Pip all the way. First to admit I didn't want him as skipper at first, happy to admit I was wrong. For the future Hibbo or Baines but would also choose Tim Howard.

Glad I'm not alone in JH. Not only should he be playing, he should be captain. Such a calming influence on the side. A coincidence we began to play better last season the more JH was at the back?
