Everton's 25

I suppose I meant that he is considered senior player material. What if a Neville Southall type rolls in off the bins at aged 29 when we have the 25 signed and certified. Do we have to wait till January?
Another thing, what if a player had been on the books at a club 16-21 got injured, jailed, drugged out, then got it together and started to play again, what rules there?

As above as long as 3 full years before their 21st Birthday as off 1st january the same year in training with FA or FAW club no worries re the gaps to be classed home grown and before you ask Billy Kenny is not an option we're considering.

alright while we're trying to make sense of this rule. Can a player under 21 be registered if it helps you out towards the home grown rule? For instance, lets say next season we struggle with the home grown thing, could we say, register rodwell so it would help us?

Presumably players can be added in January?

What a load of utter pish that is.

Pointless, unless the point is to wind up City, in which case, nice one.

If you have 25 players on the list then you can only change players in January. But if you only have 22-23 in it then you can add people at any point in the season if you were to sign a player on a free transfer. The only time that you can have 25 and change is when its an injury plague to the keepers.

Also its not pointless. Most clubs have an unfair advantage over others because of the amount of players that they have. If Chelsea lose 2 CM they have more backup than other teams. This is also to limit the amount of players that a club can own. Man City would have an unfair advantage over every team having 33 players to choose from. Possibly going to more with Milner and Bollateli.

Why is Cahill classed as a home grown player? didn't think he was at Millwall that long.

The squad seems on the whole compared to some other prem clubs to adhere to most of FIFA's quirky rules can't help thinking that these rules are only there to keep some FIFA suit in a job for life though. Not sure how it will benefit the english game at all.

I think this will be a benefit to the national team, but only in the long term. It makes managers/clubs think that little bit more about home grown talent. The other trouble with it is, that all home grown players will have hugely inflated fees over the next few years.
Hopefully there will also be a drop off on the crap end of the foreign imports.
Who knows? Perhaps its does not go far enough - only time will tell.

He came to England when he was 16 and joined Millwall fairly quickly so he played enough seasons there when he was young to qualify as an academy player.
