Just reading the New Found Optimism For the Coming Season Thread. There's a post about us being pessimistic, downtrodden etc and it just made me wonder if Evertonians have always been that way or if not when this tendency started. I've been a supporter since 1970 when I was 7 years old but I'm not a Merseysider so not sure whether it's a general social/mental aspect or coincided with a particular phase of our history eg in the 70's spending loads and winning nothing or in the 90's with our dire form and flirting with relegtion? Any thoughts?

I think its a mix of being PYAR scouse and realistic

The realist in me says " a relegated manager and half a relegated team? LOL"

The optimist says " give him 18 months, Wigan are PYAR pish".

I can go from wildly optimistic to suicidal in the time it takes for Z-cars to finish and the ref to toss the coin.

We're gonna win the league, and now you're gonna believe us, and now you're gonna believe us, and now you're gonna belieeevvvvvvvve us, we're gonna win the league...........

3 Wigan players, of which only one will actually probably start games (the one who scored more goals than anyone in our team last year).

Still, don't like that stop you being pessimistic Bry.

Or you could say a manager and 3 players who started an won the FA Cup Final?

The minute i hear a commentator say "to Naismith......... oh thats poor from Naismith" i usually think the worst.

..eh? We are Evertonian''s, we are not deluded. If I had a criticism it would be that we are probably a better team than even we think we are.

I think we were a lot more optimistic in the 80s, until the 2 lost FA cup finals against the RS. I dunno about anyone else but i started hating them on a higher level after that. Since our last win in 95 we have been utter sh*t so it became normal to be pessimistic about our chances.
