Everton would be foolish to hatch special plan to stop Leicester

Vardy and Mahrez have scored 26 league goals between them this season with Mahrez also contributing seven assists.

But Martinez insists Everton would be foolish if they only focused their defensive efforts on Vardy and Mahrez this weekend.

Leicester are the division’s top scorers with 34 goals in their 16 games and the Blues boss insists they have threats beyond Vardy and Mahrez.

“As a team you have to be very, very careful,” Martinez said.

“If you are too concerned about Vardy then Ulloa or Okazaki they are going to use that space. And if you are over-cautious with Mahrez then other players are going to take advantage over that.

“We need to be wary of their quality and their goal-scoring threat and the way they are playing with freedom and a real enjoyment at the moment but it is more about matching that aspect, rather than changing much of what we do from week to week.

“You always have to aware of the opposition, that is straight-forward, but in the same way we are playing at home, we need to enjoy ourselves and that big footballing environment when the side at the top of the league come to Goodison.”

Hi fellow Blues

If you were manager of Everton FC would you make any plans whatsoever to counter the opposition, especially top of the league opposition ? Would you practice defending corner kicks for instance ?

Please keep on topic, this thread is about tactics not personality cults etc.

Our defence needs to be spot on tomorrow, that includes the whole team making us hard to break down.

The last 3 games we've lost 2 points in due to errors and we can't afford to do that again against these as they'll punish us.

Going forward we need to be a lot more ruthless.

Now I asked first here, no pinching my ideas.

Please read the original post before responding to a thread Douglas, this is a forum for rational and intelligent debate
