I slightly agree with what you say Eggs but the enforced change of McCarthy really damaged us. When Barry came on he just sat on the toes of our back 4 which had Gaye chasing shadows as their midfield played around him. That in my humble opinion was why we became encamped on the edge of our box.. I don't think it was for lack of trying.. more down to lack of quality in depth.

..I agree that Barry didn't provide the same running power as McCarthy and largely sat in front of the back four but the real problem to us being under the cosh was our 4 offensive players. Neither Lennon or Valencia pushed their full backs back by getting at them and beyond them. Barkley was totally dominated by Henderson, we needed him driving forward but he was ineffective virtually every time he got the ball. Finally, the team really needed Lukaku to keep hold of the ball when it was played up to him, treat it like gold dust, run the line and run the channels, picking up free kicks to relieve the pressure.

It's a shame the performances of those 4 are being forgotten as folk gang up on Barry.

Again... I see your point , them 4 were really ineffective in the second half but again I feel that was due to the shape of our team and how deep we were forced to sit. Anytime we were able to clear the ball from the back it wasn't really a pass but more of a hoof. Rom became so isolated it was sad to watch. Personally I would have made changes earlier and swapped Lennon and Barkley for Cleverly and Mirallas. Cleverly could have played alongside Gaye with Mirallas out wide left which may or may not have worked but it would have given us a 4-1-4-1 shape if you like with Barry sitting as the deep 1. I just feel we were overly exposed in the middle of the park second half. Hey ho it's gone now, learn from it and move on.

No offence Andy, but if you thought that was good, is it any wonder we've won the square root of frig all in my lifetime and are 1 in 20 against then. They had a better success rate in pushing over walls than that ffs.

Second half was pathetic. Circumstances didn't help. But nonetheless unacceptable, pathetic, embarrassing and gut wrenching.

No offence taken TT.

However, I did not say it was good, I merely suggested it was not a bad performance without emphasising I meant in terms of overall effort.
For sure, in terms of quality it was not good.

As I wrote and you have highlighted, the loss of McCarthy at half time and then Stekelenburg that provided the additional time when we were already visibly tiring were circumstances that didn't help.

Yea mate I get what you're saying now that I've calmed.

It weren't good, it weren't good at all. But we weren't helped by things. Things are gonna get worse before they get better. Think I need to take it on the chin and try to accept it better.

If you need a smack on the chin mate, I'm sure there'll be a few on here willing to oblige... if only to vent their own frustrations lollollol
Only joking - Merry Christmas ;);)

We lost the game after the 2 managers team talks, Liverpool's was good and ours was not, How a first half so good and full of passion and commitment can turn into such an abject second half is beyond me, yes we had to make changes but for me nowhere near good enough from the manager at half time and from the majority of the players in the 2nd half. I really felt for the fans as they were amazing but the defeat was coming...We all sensed it as the game progressed...The fact it came in injury time via a scuffed shot makes it all the more sickening then we have to put up with them smug red noses rubbing it in our faces every day this week. One league win in ten years against them is a sequence we need to put an end to...And quickly.
