Everton's Under-18s returned to winning ways with a thrilling 4-3 win over Manchester United.
The young Toffees were pushed all the way by their rivals from down the M62 but were never behind after going 1-0 down, eventually running out deserved winners.
United took the lead after 15 minutes under controversial circumstances, with the Blues claiming a foul on central defender Daniel Murphy.
But just five minutes later, the Everton man had his revenge, nodding in a Luke Garbutt cross to level the scores.
Ex-Leeds man Garbutt was to have a busy day, next stepping up to stroke home a penalty after Femi Orenuga had been felled in the box 30 minutes in.
Everton then hit the post with Conor McAleny the unlucky man. And after the break it looked like that might be significant as United restored parity from the penalty spot.
This time Garbutt appeared the victim of injustice but again he bounced back, supplying a corner which Murphy headed in for his second goal of the day, making it 3-2.
The fourth goal was arguably the best of the lot, with an excellent move again seeing Garbutt providing the ammunition, this time for McAleny who converted with aplomb.
The same player hit the post for the second time before United pulled one back with five minutes left to ensure a nervy ending.
"It certainly was a thriller," coach Neil Dewsnip told evertonfc.com. "There was possibly a foul in the build up to their first goal, and the penalty just hit Luke to we feel we were the worthy winners."
