Full Time. Everton 1-0 Blackburn

A well worked Andy Johnson goal was enough to give Everton the three points against Blackburn. In truth, the 1-0 scoreline flattered Blackburn, who offered nothing to worry Tim Howard and his defence.

Everton started brightly and pressed home their advantage after Arteta flicked on a header for Johnson to volley into the roof of the net from 6 yards out. The goal on 10 minutes was Johnson's 10th of the season, a great way to celebrate his 26th birthday.

Everton pressed hard for a second goal throughout the first half. Fernandes had the best opportunity to double the lead, first having a thunderous effort saved before putting the rebound wide. Johnson and van der Meyde were also guilty of missing decent chances.

Despite the fantastic football played by the Everton players, a slender 1-0 lead was all they had to show for their efforts.

Blackburn failed to improve in the second half and Everton again dominated. More good football was played, and more chances were wasted. Tim Cahill was booked, meaning he'll miss Everton's clash with Spurs.

Everton were left hanging on towards the end as Blackburn finally had a spell of good pressure. However, they still didn't create any clear opportunites and Everton survived for a crucial victory.

A fantastic performance from Everton, despite the wasted chances. It could have been more, but I'm sure Moyes and his players will be delighted with the 3 points.

Star man of the match - Mikel Arteta
