Worldwide nearly 500 million people watched last years FA Cup final.

Lets say just 1% of this year's viewers want to buy an official Everton product. That's 5 million customers.

Lets say that the average spend is £10. That's £50 million.

This is a chance for Everton to create massive new fanbase worldwide and sell them Everton merchandise.

Potentially this is the month Everton turnover more money for merchandise than any other month in their history.

Sadly though they have closed the online Megastore

Doh!

It takes a very fickle fan who watches a cup final, and decides to buy merchandise from the winning team straight away.

We may gain a few fans from the F.A cup final. However they are very unlikely to purchase merchandise straight away. They may in time though, but they were unlikely to do it through the club anyway. They are far more likely to search the internet and look for the cheapest option, just like a lot of us do.

Regardless of the numbers, it seems very odd for the shop to be shut after the biggest game of our season.

This decision was probably made weeks before we got to the final, cant hardly turn round and say we will keep selling umbro products just because we are FA Cup winners

It does sound like a daft move by the club. Allowing the closure of the megastore before the L1 and Goodison shops are up and running is just plain ******* stupid as it transpires. Fair enough, this closure must have been in the pipeline. But they've been leasing the megastore for what, two years? Could they not have looked into extending that lease up to the point the megastore's replacement was in place? They've been very vague about the timing of the new facilities coming on stream.

They said the new strip would be out early June, so we can assume everything will be up and running by then

I don't think it'll be closed for long, they have a new deal in place so need to change things around a bit, if it means better merchandise it's a necessary evil. Also, assuming the figure is correct (which I don't think it is, I don't think we'll earn anything near £50m extra from merchandise due to getting to the final), closing the shop for a short while wouldn't affect it too much because if people want an Everton top & can't get it for a week, they'll just get it when the shop opens again

OK I agree that £50 million was substantionaly overstating the amount. The real point was that it seems to be rather amateur that a multimillion pound organisation shuts down its online store a month before the FA cup final.

There is a message saying the new online store will open soon rather than a definitive opening date which also looks poor.

I was trying to buy a goalkeeper shirt for my kid's 8th birthday and now he probably won't get one.

He'll just have to play up front then - is he a good striker?:D

get one from jjb then, it was their shop with all the shirt money going to them anyway, we got an upfront payment if i'm not mistaken.

i cant wait for the le coq "let's hug" sign to go up.

Just like when the RS won the Champions League. Shirt sales and other merchandise went through the roof. My first thought was "where was these fans before the victory"? Where did they come from? Crawling through the woodwork, that's where.
