...a few months after they beat us in the FA Cup Final. We beat them 6-0 away just before that final. I was there, it brings back unhappy memories.
This was my 1st ever match, FA Cup final 68, my Dad, Grandad, Mum and Nan took me and the Dog! Dog dressed all in Blue and White. I was......5 months old!

My Mum and Nan had to stay outside Wembley, with the Dog lol.

Hottest Cup final favourites in YEARS!

...I was there too, Dixie. As bad as it was, I was actually worst when Tommy Booth scored in the last minute at Villa Park. I was a devastated child standing outside the ground that day. I distinctly remember a Man City fan coming up to me afterwards; “you support Everton, son, you’ll have plenty of good times”. Ironic how things turned out for City.

Only quite recently though mate in the greater scheme of things! Not long ago they were in the 3rd tier!
On topic I literally cried for hours on the way up the M6 after that match. Even my mild-mannered Dad said “ for God’s sake shut up!!” Stuck behind a City fans’ coach with the words Tommy Booth from torn up newspapers in the back window for about 6 hours!!!!

68 cup final epitomised the Cats time in charge for me. He was a great manager but if he had better man management skills and better motivational techniques he would have been up there with the true greats. He nearly blew it in 66 and did blow it in 68 and on a quite a number of other occasions in big games particularly semi finals.

My old man, never shows his emotion at matches, happy when we win dismissive when we lose, he bollocked me big time time after the Old Trafford replay against Villa in 77! Said if I cried again wouldn't take me lol! Dont get me wrong he felt it just like we all do.

In 84 though against Watford, we lost his Mum, my Nan few weeks earlier, cried like a baby both of us during Abide with Me and then again at the final whistle, proper bonding session, we still go together, taking him West Ham game in October but hes getting on a bit, so not a frequent visitor these days, we have had plenty to laugh and cry at thanks to the Toffees but so glad that him and my Grandad introduced me to the love affair that is Everton!
