So Fellaini signed today. Good news, though I expect he has increased his weekly take home. It got me thinking about where we stand in the medium and long term which in turn led me to thinking of the Olympics in the run up to 2012.
You know the rules, 8 players 23 years and under, 3 other players allowed over that age limit.
My Everton side is
For an off the top of my head idea that eleven doesn't seem so bad, and I'd be surprised if more than another 3 prem sides could field as strong a side (baring in mind prem games played).
Then it hit me, a lot was made over the summer about SAF rebuilding his side, shuffling some of the old guard along and bringing the average age of his starting eleven right down. Seems to me Moyes has done a very similar thing, granted without the cash and marquee signings. End of the day, record signings are only good until they either move on or retire, being able to promote from within is key to being able to then accumulate resources for the odd marquee signature. Do a quick comparison, imagine having to do the rebuilding job at Chelsea within the next season and a half.
Long term stability, players ready to step in, and those back ups already knowing each other and their respective styles of play - strengths/weaknesses.
