Simple question, with Hazel Blears being collared as a crook, who now makes the Destination Kirkby decision?

Inspector Wendy Burden wrapped up nearly three months of evidence yesterday (February 6, 2009) by explaining how long it would take to make her recommendations to the Secretary of State Hazel Blears. She said: "Having regard to the time required to complete a report on a case that's not straight forward and where there are a number of complex issues that have not been resolved, I would expect the report to be delivered by the middle of June."

Andy Burnham ?

Burnham would have to declare his interest as someone who doesn't favour the Kirkby proposal. God knows who will get the job, but I cant see any delay beyond the autumn, to be honest.

Just to add that the government's policy is lukewarm on out of town builds - and this does fall into that category. The PM reiterated in his Question Time today that green field sites are off limit to development. The case for regeneration has to be solid to force a development through.

The recommendations are made by civil servants, doesn't really make a difference who's wearing the big hat as far as I am concerned, thought Davek is correct.

Love the way she resigned, but was really hoping that as she had more of a grasp of the many issues involved, the decision would be one made on more than mere politics.

For me, whoever comes in won't have a feel for the issues and I suspect whoever loses will want to cry foul most loudly.

The outgoing SoS wont be up to speed on this. The inspector is still compiling the report. I'd imagine if any feedback has been given by this stage the same bureacrats it's been fed to will be there when the next Minister takes the post. I really cant see why this would delay anything or leave grounds for an appeal. Let's just get it over and done with!
