Hello everyone,

I’m interviewing Simon Hart over the weekend for Grand Old Team TV. Simon has written a book called Here We Go: Everton in the 1980s. It’s a collection of interviews with the stars of that era including Kevin Ratcliffe, Adrian Heath, Gary Lineker, Pat van den Hauwe, Mark Higgins, Kevin Richardson, Paul Power and Pat Nevin.

I’ve been reading this over the past few days and some of the stories are amazing. I wasn’t around at that time so it’s really good to get an insight into some of the best Everton teams ever. The book is brimming with some amazing Howard Kendall stories too, I highly recommend it.

If you’ve read the book (or even if you haven’t) and you have some questions for Simon on Everton in the 80s, please let me know and I’ll do my best to ask him when we speak.

Hopefully, the video will be out early next week.

I can't explain the feelings about that team , I can remember as if it were yesterday, walking down Walton hall avenue on Cup Final Day 1984 , it's was about 7.30 ish the sun coming through the trees you could smell early summer , I also knew and felt this Everton team were onto something special and excited that I was going to witness it .The day itself was magical, I witnessed then the 84 charity shield sharpys winner. And for me the Greatest game I have ever witnessed for passion and excitement was the 85 Bayern Munich , I hope all are young fans get to sample just some of those fantastic days we were blessed to have been given . It's why we love Everton

Was lucky to have season ticket through those years, we had strongest home record in Europe for 3 or 4 seasons. I remember hoping the away team would score first (apart from lpool or Utd) so at least it would be a game. Easy 2,3,4 - 0 wins were routine and we just expected it.
The quality of players we had was outstanding, even the subs (Richardson, Heath/gray) were outstanding and good enough to get into any other team. Special times, happy days

Those happy days will never return !
Even Goodison seemed to be magical then , the smell of the hot dogs on the corners, horse sh1t all around the ground and that buzz you could slice threw it . I'd get in the ground way before kick off and in awe I'd watch inchy and Reidy with there Le Coq Sportif boots with the white at the back , bracewell ratters play keep up in the centre circle. Sharpy testing Big Nev in goal . And even z cars sounded different, and the roar you couldn't describe it . Here's the thing I often get asked by younger blues , were Everton as good as Chelsea of today or Man City , I tell them this , we were as good as any team in Europe, for we were voted European team of the year 1985 . I wish I had a time machine. I realise now that everyone of us who seen this magical side , well we were given a lottery ticket of a lifetime, in this clubs 138 history we got the jackpot.

Spot on mate, that team of ours is very much understated nationally(like the 1970 side)but I always think our team would be more than a match for any of the media "glory boys"I know that because I was fortunate enough to see that great side most weeks home and away:)

When
Here's the interview. I really enjoyed talking to Simon about what must have been an amazing time to support Everton. Put the kettle on and have a watch. Enjoy.
