Player Valuation: £50m
Has there ever been another club that has supposedly been 'bracing themselves for bids' for their players for so long, bids that never ever seem to materialise?

Tim Howard is in line to become David Beckham’s first signing for Miami, writes Neil Moxley in the Sunday People. The Toffees are bracing themselves for a bid for the 35-year-old as superstar Beckham looks to make a bold statement of intent.

The Mail go one better - they manage to link 3 of our players with moves away in the same story:

Everton are reluctant to sell any of their stars with pressure already coming from Chelsea for Seamus Coleman and several clubs monitoring Ross Barkley. McCarthy is very much part of their plans and Arsenal’s offer is likely to be rejected but they are willing to go higher to test Everton’s resolve.

That's Coleman with approximately 4 years and 9 months left on his contract and Barkley with 3 years and 9 months left on his.

And everyone knows that McCarthy automatically will get a contract extension when he hits a set number of appearances, in the same way that John Stones did.

It never fails to amaze me how little these newspapers seem to respect Everton as a club, or Roberto Martinez as a manager.

Just remember that every club is a selling club at the right price.

I still laughed at Rodney Marsh's tweet from a few months back saying that "Barkley needed to get away from Everton."

He took a lot of stick for that and rightfully so.

Tim Howard - signed a new 4 year contract in April this year. For the record.

We're in our best financial position for close to 25 years, repeatedly have said we don't want (or need) to sell anyone, are doing very well in Europe, have a great manager, and nearly every player is under long term contract. There are no bad apples, and we very clearly have a great team spirit.

These stories always smack of journos with agendas wanting to upset the apple cart and create unrest.

It's so utterly tiresome and played out.

Southampton are doing well - why can't they sell some of their players? West Ham too.

Oh I forgot - they're Southern teams, where most of the press are based. Silly me.

I'm pretty sure we could write a sarcastic article post it on the main site and make these so called journalists fume.

About preparing for bids.

Fcuk the journalists, they are leeches just like the foreign players in our league. In fact I think they are worse than the agents who fundamentally can not talk any better than our thick footballers... obviously, as has been documented and all the trash they say
Who wamts to listen to the same sh?te every week. Our boss is a breath of fresh air!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Macca for 16million made me LOL this morning. On the glue yanno these journo folk. We'd be talking about comfortably more than double the amount we paid for him if we were to sell, 30million + in todays market.

Or the click-bait that read the guff they post. Sadly there are people (like my own father) who believe whatever is printed in the Mirror, a newspaper with such integrity that it resorted to lifting quotes from a fans' website to insert into a story in the build-up to an Everton v Man U game, to suggest there may be trouble outside the ground.

They'll go if they want to go or if Bill needs to pay down more debt to get his asking price. Either way, the world turns, and we're still playing at Goodison Park.
