Everton are no longer a selling club but must start buying to really prove ambition.

Make no mistake, Everton have been a selling club over the years. The Premier League era has not been kind to the Blues and a swarm of talent has been lost. Year after year the side was robbed of an integral player and we had no choice but to go again. That’s the way it was.
The club would come out to dismiss rumours of sales and bids but it was inevitable; as soon as the interest was there, players were as good as gone.
However, not anymore. Since Roberto Martinez was appointed manager in June 2013, Everton have found a backbone and held firm. ‘Not for sale’ now means ‘not for sale’

Makes it sound like the massive influx of sky money that allowed us to keep players and still sign someone is somehow Martinez's doing, that aside its a very good article, highlighting the issues we can all currently see, but that don't seem to be getting resolved.

Certainly does.

That David Moyes, always choosing to sell his best players and barely have 16 in the squad to start the season. What a fool he must have been. /sarcasm

Historically that "always 2 or 3 signings away" has been because we've had to sell. If we can keep what we have, add to it with a combination of signings and youth coming through then we have a chance to progress.

We're likely to lose first choice picks most season down to age as well. Ideally we need three to five signings a season to go straight into the squad, a couple of young ones coming through and no outgoings without them being replaced like for like on top of the rest

If we can do that for the next three seasons, we'll have done well.

i think if we get in players for the 3 positions martinez has listed we may not need much next summer. then again, i expect us to be back in europe, so possibly ship off a couple of fringe players like mcgeady, pienaar, gibson and kone and do a couple of upgrades for the squad. we have a great core of young players and nobody except the keeper will need replacing due to age.
