Player Valuation: £750k
Did anyone else pick up on one of Elstone's pronouncements at the EGM? He basically gave the Fair Play rules as an excuse for the Club not signing many players this closed season. He said Everton's current ratio of wages to turnover is so high that to avoid breaking the FP rules from next season we can only take on board another £4m of players wages! Amongst other things this means that it doesn't matter even if we have the transfer fee cash to bring a number of players in -- we would be restricted to paying them in total £80K a week. So forget any big names -- unless of course we remove one or two of the big earners off the books beforehand.

But, as usual with statements from the club, the more you think about this the more you doubt it. We are getting an extra £20m from TV this season? This is around a 20% automatic increase in our turnover figure. For us still to fall foul of the rules implies our current ratio is massively over what's permissible. Surely that can't be right. (As an aside, if it is it's another black mark against the outsourcing deals with Kitbag and Sodexo since out turnover figure would be some £8m higher if the merchandising and catering contracts were in-house and so our allowable wage bill could be that much bigger.)

Seems to me like the club are giving us notice not to expect too much buying in the transfer market over the next few months -- but that it's not their fault, it's the fault of those guys at UEFA/FIFA -- without them we'd be splashing out big time.....

The FFP rules state you can only add 4m of extra wages per Season.

What Suntan forgets to mention is that in the last few Years we have removed Cahill, Neville, Arteta and Moyes all from the wage bill.
