It was by far and away the best Everton game that I have ever been to, and it most probably always will be. We just completely dominated them in every single aspect and regard from start to finish. It was an unbelievable performance and an unbelievable atmosphere that will most probably never be repeated.
It didn't start well for me though, I was only 10 and my dad's ticket stub (the important part that is handed to the man on the gate) was loose and ended up falling off the ticket and into some inaccessible building site next to Elland Road. The man on the gate wouldn't let my dad in without the ticket stub, so I had to go in the ground on my own.
Being alone in the ground as a 10 year old was torture for me, not because I was scared or anything, but because I was unable to participate in all the pre-match atmosphere properly (which was absolutely bouncing), as I was too concerned about what was happening to my dad, and I was worried that I might not find him after the match etc.
Anyway, at 14:59 my dad entered the ground along with a steward. It turns out that a fellow scouser had advised my dad to stop wasting his time arguing with stewards, and to approach a police officer and explain that his child is in the ground alone and unaccompanied due to his ticket falling apart. My dad must have spoken to a sound bizzie, as it was soon sorted so that he could take his seat in the stand as long as I was there alone and nobody else was occupying my dad's seat at 14:59.
Seeing my dad enter the ground at 14:59, and then witnessing the greatest Everton performance in the last 25 years made for one hell of a day out!!!
Remember the big F'off flag we had going around that day?lol
There was two of them, IIRC.
