Barry has been great so far. I had him scheduled as a sacrifice to the soft tissue gods at the end of the pre-season, but I'm delighted to be wrong. He's very smart and fits the role he's currently being asked to do.

Outside of his terrible backpass, Funes Mori has been very, very good. I'm combing through Vickery's previous comments now for other FM transfer gems.

Stones was the sex he always is, which says a lot about the squad's performance this weekend that he was relatively unimpressive.

A happy, smiling Kone is one of my favorite sights.

Despite that he screams like bambi when the wind changes direction, Geri D is a murderer when he puts in the cross. He was great Saturday.

Lukaku is a terror, I love watching him play hungry.

But Barkley playing smartly and picking up the scraps for two goals was MOTM for me. He still has a lot to learn if he's ever going to be great, but sometimes he needs to relax and play simply great to be masterful. Watching him get into position for those goals was exciting (in terms of his development), but more than that I want to see the lads in blue picking up the unexpected goals too.

Really enjoyed the match despite Villa not turning up. 4-0 looks all well and good but just need to try and transcend these performances against bottom teams to beat the big boys more consistently. Also barring injuries to Jags & Baines I think we have a definitive "best" XI for the first time in a number of seasons.

I feel like we almost always compete well against the top sides, it's against the bottom feeders that we've given away points in recent years. We're going to lose some games against the big boys occasionally. Destroy the crap teams all the time like we should and the points will come against the big teams.

Settling for draws against bottom 7 teams is what has killed us in the table the last few seasons.

It was close for MOTM, and I gave it to Geri, but your comments are spot on. It was the tenacity of Kone that got Barkley his second goal, and Kones general contribution should not be overlooked. In that situation and tussle with the keeper, Naismith(and I like the different qualities Naismith has) would have gone down claiming a cheap penalty. Therein lies the difference in ability between Steven and Arouna, and shows why Kone is starting.

Barry has only 8% of the vote! He was outstanding. I'd love to know his stats for number of touches on the ball. He must be streets ahead of anyone else. Anyone out there with the stats?
