We were 14th when he left us to go to the Asia cup. We finished 7th.

He's great at what he does, but we don't have the pace or diversity in attack to support the formation he needs. It's not his fault, but at least against lesser sides, with him in the team, the team suffers as a whole.

You can't fault Cahill, just Moyes for only ever trying a different formation or lineup when injury forces him to.

I want to know why Arteta took that free kick instead of Baines?

Mind boggling to say the least...........

Ridiculous that. Baines' one that hit the woodwork was just a little too close to goal. That was further out and there was a good chance he could have scored. Arteta though, as usual, hit the wall. It beggars belief.

true but only to a point...yes we were 14th when he left but in that time he was directly invovled in getting us 13pts in that period with his 9 goals and 5 assists when he came back (injured) he only went onto make 1 starting app ( i think 7 from the bench)

i get it theres always a fall guy just dont think he deserves as much stick as he gets

Cahill (and indeed the 4-5-1) is most effective against the bigger 4 or 5 teams. He antagonises defenders and is a genuine handful. But being a handful is not enough against QPR at home. I'd ALWAYS start 4-4-2 against any none top 6 side and go at them. Our midfield is strong enough to just have 4 and they NEED an outlet for all of that talent.
4-5-1 should be for when WE want to be difficult to breakdown, not the other way around.
I love Tim Cahill, but he isnt effective in a 4 man midfield unless you are bringing him into a game you are chasing in the last 20. That way you can essentially use him as a third striker.

I just don't understand why Moyes doesn't see this. I know we all have our own opinions, but the 4-4-2 thing is SO obvious to see. Oh and if Saha isnt fit: Start with him, let him last as long as he can then either bring on Cahill or Yak / Vellios..

He hardly played when he came back and didn't score. Before he left he scored loads but we were doing terribly, so I think it's a decent comparison.

He's not the fall guy because I'm not blaming him. I'm blaming Moyes for only changing his formations and tactics when injuries force his hand.

It was obviousl last season that 4-4-1-1 at home against teams content to defend was just not good enough. I mention Cahill because Cahill is the focal point of this formation and the reason we play it. Not because Cahill's doing anything wrong. He tries his best and is a very good player.

From where i was sat it looked like Kenny was anticipating another Baines effort to the near post so had moved over that way a bit so it wasn't a bad idea to have Arteta try and curl it to the far post.

Well it wouldn't be if Arteta could actually get a feee kick over a wall.

That's a fair point, on both accounts.

We should be using Cahill the way SAF uses Park Ji Sung - deploying him mainly in the big games against the big teams.
