This isn't up for debate
18 months ago DCL was higher up the pecking order as Kanes back up for the national team. Watkins has significantly progressed, DCL has regressed. One is infinitely better, more focussed, more interested and more capable than the other.

Heard a couple of Villa fans/šŸ””šŸ”šs on the way out saying they couldn’t understand what we were kicking off about 🤣🤣🤣

Their players only had to throw themselves on the floor and it was a free kick, we
Were getting ragged all over the shop and nothing given.

He’s reffed us terribly before, Everton should complain.
Unai Emery is a master of building snide and gamesmanship into his teams

Hugely encouraging start to the Moyes era. Villa are in the CL, but they certainly didn't outclass us.

Onana should have been sent off in the first half and we should have had a penalty, but thems the breaks.

We now have nine cup finals before we say goodbye to Goodison.

Saw Dom in the players' lounge and he looked desperately sad.
Sad or disinterested?

18 months is a stretch mate. Dom hasn’t kicked a ball for England in 3 and a half years - Watkins has been in most squads since.

Recollection of time has never been my thing, but the sentiment is correct. One has massively improved compared to the other.

Stats can certainly hide underlying woes but they can also give hope when seemingly things are knackered.

At least when you look at the Villa game (ignoring the pen shouts) we looked competitive in terms of possession, shots, short on target etc, etc.

There are reasons to be cheerful

Don’t get the atmosphere jibes at all

It may not have been great last night but it was probably the best it’s been this season. Even when we beat wolves 3-0 the atmosphere was dead under dyche.

Normally there’s not even an Everton chant but last night there were probably around at least 10 separate ocassions when the fans tried to rally the players and sing and get something going and then there was constant noise because of the refs terrible performance. It wasn’t silent like a morgue.

There were even occasions where the villa fans were drowned out by our noise
That's not saying much!

I know there's not much to shout about but the atmosphere seems to be getting worse by the week. So odd being able to hear individual shouts during the game - don't think there's another ground in the country where that's the case.

That first half must've been a dream for Villa. They come out thinking they'd be up against the crowd and it was actually completely silent.
Agreed!

Been on holiday on the Coromandel: wonderful family time together. My son has just told me the score and I immediately asked "how did Leicester, Ipswich, Wolves and S'hampton go?" We were all very happy when we saw those results.

And this is what Everton and its supporters have now become: a club desperately clinging onto a hope that other teams will present more useless than us.
