Saw him at GP for WC QF vs North Korea! He was ace. Very skilful, powerful, pacey. Took game by the scruff of the neck when 3 down. I was too young to go into more detail but the anticipation of the crowd whenever he was on the ball was brilliant. Mate I met in later life watched him train in Harlow or somewhere down there in 66 too. Said he was cracking in the penalties top corner for fun. Apparently very modest and well liked too.

I was at the North Korea game at GP...in the Park End. He was an amazing player . I was 25 then so my memory is probably more detailed than yours...but do you remember...North Korea started like world beaters but Eusebio started the come back(Gwladys St end) ,followed the ball into the net, picked it up and ran back to the centre spot with it ready for the restart!. He was just behind Pele as the greatest at that World Cup, but was superb. Pele got kicked and kicked at GP (Brazil v Hungary or Bulgaria?) every time he was kicked to the ground he got up and they kicked him again. Saw all the early games at GP and then watched the final , three of us with 12 West Germans, on the only TV in a little village in Austria, but thats another story !!

66 was before my time but seen all the footage of the Goodison world cup games. He was possibly the best player at that time, with pelé. R.i.P sir.

...clearly remember him and Pak Do Ik exchanging goals in the '66 World Cup at Goodison. A panther like footballer, top drawer. Also remember the save Alex Stepney made from him in the '68 European Cup Final and he made a point of immediately congratulating the Man Utd goalie. Top sportsman and gentleman of a bygone era.
