Should we give all to still chase Europe?

Do we still push for Europa, or do we use the remaining matches to prepare fully for next season?

We should really sack all thoughts of Europe in my opinion, and test the team out with the remaining games, thus giving us a more trialled and experienced squad in which to challenge for top 4 next year.
Not being in Europe might do us the world of good for one season, and at least make the players realise they can't bottle it any more if they want to get there again. Moyes hasn't had all the players fit enough for long enough this season, so let's ensure we start next year with a full squad, and give the kids a run out as much as possible to develop them further. We just might find a gem, and at worst we'll be protecting others from injury.

City have a game in hand and are 8 points clear of us.
Liverpool are 6 points clear with a 12 goal better goal difference, and Villa are 4 points clear, with the same goal difference, but with 2 games in hand. We'll probably have to finish 6th to have any chance of Europe unless Chelsea win the cup.

I can feel injuries happening to key players if we don't give them a little rest, especially Baines, who has played every match, and may have a World Cup to contend with too. Jags has been rushed back, as has Anichebe and Yakubu, and already Anichebe picked another knock up. Other players have to play in the WC too, like Pienaar ( S Africa), Heitinga (Nederlands), Howard(USA), Cahill(AUS), Yobo, Anichebe & Yakubu (Nigeria) Baines (England) as stated, and a slim chance of Saha (France) so we owe it to these guys not to risk injury on them also.

Or, we can still chase the dream, and risk injury, ignore giving the kids some experience, and possibly still not make it, all for a cup that is worthless other than the mediocre prestige of winning it in comparison to the Champions league. Yes, there are different payments for league position, but surely we can still consolidate what we have, and maybe still take over Birmingham, at the same time giving the kids a go and some much needed breathers to the senior players.

What say ye?

Play to win and see what happens. Bring back the biff, I want to see a few more fights - it might make the rest of the season tolerable.

Don't see why not? We are out of F.A. Cup & Europa League, and only got the league games to look forward to, and it's not as though we haven't got a chance to get one of the Europe place, so, I say just do out best and get as high as possible and see how high we could finish in the table?

Had we beat Brum - particularly given the results of the other Europa contenders above us - I would have voted 'Yes' to the poll as I would have thought we could have a real go at finishing 4th this season. However, 4th now being all but lost, I voted 'No' and agree entirely with you, Blue (y)

We have to keep climbing up the table and I'd be pleased if we made Europe but I wouldn't exactly be upset if we didn't.

Should we still be going for Europe?

Bloody hell, of course we should. Why on earth shouldn't we?

That doesn't mean I expect to finish there. But we have 9 games, 5 or 6 of which are games I see we can win if we play well, and the other 3 being winnable in their own right. Let's get some more points on the board in the next few games and see where we are coming into the last few weeks.

Whilst I think rotation will occur naturally, we don't 'owe' it to any player to not play them just because the World Cup is coming up. The players owe it to us to finish as damn high up the table as possible - and they're making a mighty good fight of it at the moment.

Lets not bother chasing europe this season so next year we can finish 4th then crash out of the champs league qualifiers after a crap away performance.

I think that we would need to win every game to stand a chance of europa league, but the run in isnt bad, so why not? I know the chances are slim, because we are counting on two teams slipping up, like Villa and Birmingham, but stranger things have happened.

I think being in the euopa league makes us stand out from the other teams outside of the top four, so if we dont get in the europa league, we probably wont get any players in the summer

Play to win....always
we could do teams out of a europa place or at a big push c.l. would love to put citeh out of a c.l. spot even if we don't get there, and imagine if the r/s didn't get in europe at all, plus the higher we finish the more money we get....for next season.

plus i like the fact that we are the only team to finish in a c.l. spot apart from the sky darlings.

What we discuss here won't affect Moyes decision one bit despite some members in certain threads panicking like our club depends on our verdict.

We have 9 games left in the season. In the transfer window, we will want certain positions filled. Some of these positions could be filled from within, but Moyes appears reluctant to take the risk during the season.

Seamus Coleman - 21 years old - Right Back

Started a few games in the cups, and used as a sub a few times in the league. Played fairly well. Had 40,000 fans begging Moyes to continue playing him yet was never seen again. Instead Moyes preferred to use Neville, who is slow in defence and poor in attack, and and whose top flight career is drawing to a close. Compare that to Coleman, who is like a Jack Russel chasing a rabbit both in defence and attack, and you wonder why he's not been given the chance again.

What stirs the hornets nest further is that the newspapers are reporting that we might even send the lad out on loan to get him some experience. Some think it's with a view to softening a potential swoop for Charlie Adam.

Why give him experience with Holloways team when we could be giving him experience at the highest level?

9 games, be it the full 90 minutes, or 45, would give the lad great experience, and let Moyes have a much better look at him. If he does well, which most think he will, it could save us valuable transfer money for a position many feel needs strengthening. If he flops, will he flop any worse than Nev in that position, who has been torn a new one on more than one occasion?

Shane Duffy - 18 years old - Center back

Played in a Europa game when we were short on defenders, and was our MOTM. Called into the Northern Ireland squad, so obviously someone out there likes him. Not played again by Moyes.
We need a center back, especially if Moyes decides to keep Heitinga in midfield, as Distin, like Nev, is coming towards the end of his top flight career, and reports are gathering that Yobo might want away.
Again, we could give the lad some more experience here. The same could be said for giving Senderos a few games too, or we can keep our current center backs and spend money in the summer on an unproven one regarding playing in the blue shirt.

Diniyar Bilyaletdinov - 25 years old - midfielder

21 games, 4 goals, and a £9mill fee, but apparently below Rodwell and Gosling in the pecking order now. Some say he played in Russia, so must be knackered. I say he's 25, not 65, and besides, the Russian Prem has already played 1 match again, so the guy has had plenty of rest, and will get a whole lot more soon once our season has ended, as Russia are not in the World Cup.
Stuff playing Cahill. Put him in as much as possible for the rest of the season, and let him get some Prem experience and find a bit of confidence, or, wait until next year, then have to start all over again with him.

Jose Baxter - 18 years old - Striker

Has been given 1 game in Europa that I can recall, and is a steady player.
Yakubu has been poor, Saha injured, Anichebe has taken another knock, Vaughan and Aggard out on loan, so why not give the kid a few games?

Jake Bidwell - 16 years old - Defender

Covered for Baines in the Europa and did a fine job. We don't have pre-determined left back cover at the moment other than maybe Distin, and possibly relying on a few other players versatility.
This is a position that needs to be covered really, so why not give Bidwell another shot, whilst giving Baines a bit of rest? Throw him on as a sub when we're comfortable?

There are other players, but as fans, you know who they all are so no need to list them all.

We don't have to play each one for 9 games together, but surely we can get all of them some much needed time on the pitch, and just maybe find a star.

Obviously, he did.

Easy to gripe and complain from the easy chair or bar stool and obviously, Everton's tactics or effort didn't pass your muster. Sure we all wish things would have turned out different but alas.

If you think Moyes doesn't play to win, you're plain daft. Only the second leg against BATE Borisov in the Europa group stage this year stands out to me where Moyes took a pass on the game and we'd all agree that he should have.
