Europa league winners gain entry to Champions League from 2015/16. Worth it now ?

Not sure whether this belonged in this forum, but seeing as the debate about Europa football and whether it's worth the effort happens a lot on here regarding Everton i thought it made sense.

The BBC have just stated that UEFA will place the Europa League winners into the CL from 2015/16 onwards, no more details at the moment that i can see.

Does this change people's minds about it being worthwhile now ? Particularly with Platini's promise to increase prize money to the competition, which is already happening.

That's incredible that they're changing it so quickly. So Wigan or Swansea could conceivably be in the champions league in 2015/2016?!

Worst thing they could have done for the prestige of the competiton. Reduced it to a qualifying tournament,

From the way it's worded i think the 2015/16 Europa league winners will get into the CL. But if Wigan or Swansea won it then they wouldn't be affected by this anyway as the season after next is 2014/15.

Might change the way the English treat the tournament - every other country treats it properly.

Has the prestige not been taken away ages ago, once teams coming as low as fourth in their respective leagues have gained access to it?

It's a good move but, given that most of the time the Europa League is won by someone dropping out of the Champions League, it makes you wonder whether it will have any real effect. Perhaps a way of countering this is to not have Champs League teams going in to the Europa League after the group stages.

Definitely agree with this. I think English club's attitude to the competition stinks and so often use it as an excuse for poor form in the League when, in reality, playing Thursday/Sunday is no different to Champs League teams playing Weds/Sat.

Don't think the Italians have treated it with greatest of respect either, their teams more focusing their efforts in gaining access to the cl through the league, it would change when this is introduced.
