in memoriam - 1961-2023
OK here we go with the final tranche of eight games.

Round 3

Greece v Russia FGS:

Sun 17th
Portugal v Holland FGS:
Denmark v Germany FGS:

Mon 18th
Croatia V Spain FGS:
Italy v ROI FGS:

Tues 19th

Sweden v France FGS:

Please note the following: All EIGHT scores must be posted - together with nominated (First) goalscorers before the first of these games start. Anyone who is late will only be allowed to post ALL the remaining scores /scorers at one time. Amendments to predictions are allowed, but only before the first game starts & only if a clear statement to that effect has been posted on this thread as I cannot be responsible for missing editing of previous entries.

Please also note that I will be away from Saturday 16th am until Sunday 17th pm so there will be no update after the Saturday games.

After the final games of Tuesday the 19th the top 8 players will be asked to nominate their preferred Team to win the tournament - closer to the end of the competition those who are in line to finish in the Top 8 will become clearer. Should you be in the final Top 8 when the countries contesting the Quarter Finals matches are known these Final 8 will be asked to put these countries in order of preference ASAP with the Number 1 seed picking their first choice (of course no other choice is required from this person) & the remainder allocated their highest preference not selected by a contestant above them in the final rankings. The remainder of the competition becomes a head-to-head between the contestants. :) Good luck!!

Because of the practicalities of getting scores from 30+ people with the final game of the QFs not known until 48 hours before the first game - the same with the semis - the less games left the more the competition in a KO tends to descend into a bit of a farce with people being urged to post on time. The Top 8 earn the right to go forward & win the competition.

I understood the top 8 go thro the final games, and its head to head... do we just predict 1 game for the quarter final and go head to head with the prediction? or do we make 4 prediction (Q/F), sorry if im sounding thick, i just didnt understand the highlighted text.

As I proposed it was pick a team to win Euro2012 (first choice going to the leader). If you want to propose a better solution it's adaptable. The way it might be by carrying on is that we get to the final with with someone miles ahead & it dies a death. This way at least we get a knock out element between the 8 countries represented by the 8 best predictors. If people want to run it to the end of the QFs with the Top 4 going this way say then I'm willing to agree. But, the longer it goes on the more the possibility that it gets flawed by someone being a country mile ahead.

At the Quarter final stage reset all points to 0 then the top 8 all do there quarter finals predictions, then pull the 8 names out of the hat who plays each other, so its head to head knockout.

then just same again for the semi's then final.

Sounds good - so still the top 8 go forward for the QFs predicting four games. I'm happy to arrange this (we can agree something like in the event of a tie the person with the best carry over wins).

How do we do the final? Can get awkward with just one game to predict - might have to think about more than score/scorer as both could match scores or both be wrong. This is something else that one wants to avoid - especially if it forces the person with a lesser carry over to be radical in their prediction.

Maybe predict score, fgs, 1st yellow card? 1st team to get a corner... throw a few things where points are guaranteed. if there is a tie, add all previous round points, if there is still a draw, dead heat... both are winners??
