Was it any good? There seems to be a lot of nostalgia about it recently.

Sure, it had 'Football's coming home ' and an England team that was about a 7/10 instead of its usual 5/10 at tournaments, but looking back at old games this week on BT Sports and the games of other nations seemed to be poorly attended.

Watched a few games without the home nations involved. Considering some of the players involved in the games, the grounds weren't very full. Quite suprised.

Think if we had it in this country now most games would get full houses especially if not London prices.

Seen little hagi play for Romania. Forgot how much of a good player he was.

Was a decent tournament mate. Can't recall crowds but England were good, the Holland game was superb,Scotland got knocked out in comedy fashion and Davor Suker's chip.

But yeah the main reason people remember it was that the country really got behind the team and there was that happy buzz for a few weeks you get from hosting a major tournament

This describes it perfectly.

I went to two games at Hillsborough.

It just all felt happy. Everyone was happy. Even the Danish fans who had just got utterly smashed were still smiling at the end.

Happy. Best way to describe the whole thing.

Looking back, that England team were better than a 7/10. Probably every member of that team would walk into the current XI

But disappointing against Switzerland and only squeezed past the Spanish on pens.

Should have beaten the Germans, Anderton and Gascoigne... That game against Holland though...

There was a documentary on England the other night after the ENG v POR match, with Shearer, Sheringham & Venables. All 3 basically blame Southgate for the penalty miss, cringing really.

It was a fantastic tournament, unfortunately a lot of people with money who weren't into football jumped on the bandwagon and made it harder to get tickets after that. I went to all the Wembley friendlies before the tournament. The stadium was half empty, after that you couldn't really get a look in it seemed to me.

There's been some great tournaments since, but England have been woeful at the last few.
