Euro 96 - Was it actually any good or have I got rose tinted specs on about it?

Thoughts?

I can honestly say that Euro 96 was the footballing event that cemented me as a life long fan of the beautiful game

Kind of like how drug dealers give you the good stuff first time out and then give you a weaker version from that point onwards, but by then you're already hooked

Lots of games had thousands of empty seats which often goes unmentioned when people talk about how great a tournament it was. I still really liked it though.

Saw the semi-final in Greece and literally EVERYONE bar the English were supporting the Germans ffs.

Saw Kanchelskis at the some ground that was quite near to Goodison Can't remember what it was called though.

Prenton Park?

1986 world cup way better! England team had a few Everton players in too which made it extra special.
1996 was decent though.
The tournament that got me hooked was the 1982 world cup and England's awesome-never-be-bettered kit

It was very good, but it was also a lot to do with the era.

The mid 90's was when things became good again, Football had got into Premiership full flow, Britpop and Radio 1 was in full swing, the telly was brilliant with Fantasy Football League, Men Behaving Badly, Game On, and all that. It just seemed a time when everyone was enjoying themselves.

Around the 98 World Cup, the BBC did a show called My Summer With Des, for me it summed up that time, endless warm summers and a real good feelgood factor about.

Remember the first couple of performances being awful but the Dutch game was one to remember. Probably 3rd best overall for me behind Italia 90 and Mecico 86.
