There are 24 Group Matches - given the time scale between the final group match & the remainder of Euro2012 it is impractical to run the competition beyond this stage as a Prediction Competition (to ensure everyone puts in their scores in a 2 day time frame) so, after the Group Stages the TOP EIGHT players will proceed by selecting (the leader getting first choice) their predicted Euro2012 winning country.

The format for the 24 Group matches is as follows:

The predictions are required in three Groups of 8 matches (if you wish to make all 24 at once you can do so but breaking it into 3 lots of 8 allows you to review each teams' performance to date before predicting).

You are required to predict the score & nominate a First Goalscorer for each game.

Points:
Correct Score: 3 Pts
Correct Margin: 2 Pts (e.g. 2-1 with a prediction of 1-0)
Correct Result: 1 Pt. (e.g. 2-1 with a prediction of 2-0)

Correct First Goalscorer (FGS): 2 Pts
Nominated Goalscorer scores (but it isn't the first goal) 1 Pt - NB Own Goals Do not count. If you think the match may end 0-0 it is worth adding a Goalscorer to possibly get those points as well.

Maximum per game is therefore 5 Pts (you do not get extra points if your Goalscorer happens to score the first & a later goal or just two later goals (which is worth 1 pt).

Example Prediction:

Croatia 2 Republic of Ireland 1 FGS: Jelavic

So you can get anything from 0-5 pts per game - the correct score is worth 3 pts, a score of (say) 1-0 or 3-2 would get you 2 pts & a Croatia win by another margin (say 2-0) gets you 1 pt. You can get a further 2 pts if Jelavic scores the first goal or just one point extra if he scores a later goal instead. If your player doesn't play/isn't on the pitch when the first goal is scored that's unfortunate so you have to rely on picking well.

Tiebreakers will apply where necessary to break any ties for the top 8 as follows:

Most Correct Scores
Most Correct Results
Most Correct First Goalscorers
Most Correct Scorers
Nearest Number of Goals predicted to Actual Goals
If necessary the same criteria as above applied to England games only.
Random virtual coin toss (number generated)

League Tables will be updated after each tranche of 8 games. It is important to enter all 8 predictions at one go to avoid gamesmanship. If anyone wishes to send predictions as a private message I can post these at the start of each tranche of games. Late entries are acceptable for each tranche but no points can be earned for games already played in that set of 8 games.

The games will be posted soon.

Good luck - any questions about the above please reply.

Hi, I'll be running the Euro 2012 Prediction League - as soon as I can work out a sensible way to go forward with it - details to follow.

So, sign up & have fun.
