ESPN did a great job with the World Cup last summer and NBC's coverage of the Premier league is excellent. FOX are awful in their coverage of CL and EL....so guess who will be showing the next three World Cups in the US?!

In an unexpected announcement, FIFA awarded Fox Sports and Telemundo the broadcast rights to 2026 World Cup on Thursday

It's not a surprise that Fox will broadcast the tournament. But it's a shock that FIFA awarded them the rights 11 years in advance without a bidding war with ESPN and NBC.

But if we assume that FIFA awarded the rights via this convoluted process for some reason, and not because they are 100 percent incompetent, what is that explanation? The current theory being bandied about is that this presages an announcement that the 2022 Qatar World Cup will be moved to the winter. The average summer temperature in Doha is around 95 degrees, with highs regularly hitting 120. While the Qatar bid promised the construction of stadiums with fancy air conditioning technology, FIFA put together a task force to study possible alternative dates.

Seems reasonably corrupt enough for FIFA for this to be realistic.
