Heard about this guy on the radio for the first time today. His life is just unbelievable, he must be the most courageous, brave man i have ever read about. His life is just one remarkable story after another. If anyone is interested in military aviation etc, i'm sure you would have already heard about him. If not i recommend you do!

With the Knighthoods that are given out these days, how Eric has never head one is a mystery!

If what went on in that war was recognized by the award of a knighthood, there would be hundreds of thousands of Sirs.

As an example - RIP Squadron Leader Terry Bulloch:

He joined the RAF on a short service commission in 1936 and trained as a pilot before flying Ansons in Coastal Command. By early 1940 he had transferred to No 206 Squadron to fly the twin-engined Hudson, patrolling the French, Dutch and Belgian coastal areas, including a number of hazardous trips during the evacuation of the BEF from Dunkirk. He attacked and damaged a German floatplane forcing it to land on the sea where he then bombed it.

Its not just what went on in the war though. The guy holds the record for the most landings on aircraft carriers (over 2400) and this being during a time when the aircraft carriers were not allowed to communicate with the plane in fear of German U-Boats knowing their location. Basically he was flying on missions over 100 miles away and having to land back down on a moving target with nothing to go on but his own skill. The US navy at one time employed someone just to beat his record of landings. The guy got to 1600 and then had a mental breakdown.

He is a hero among military pilots as they fly a lot more safely these days due to technologies and techniques he tested way back in the day.

That's before you even get to the other extraordinary parts of his life.

I just think who they give knighthoods out to these days, just read the guys life and tell me he doesn't deserve one more than most others.

I wasnt trying to minimize what Brown did both in combat and being the best test pilot there probably will ever be; just pointing out that there are still loads of people who fought in that war who are more deserving of knighthoods than most people who get them nowadays.
