English Referees

Really feel that since referee's became professional, the standard has grown gradually worse, have no confidence in them at all. Too many are starstruck with team names, reputation and stars in these Big teams, would like to see European refs moved to different leagues to try and combat this. The language barrier would not take that much time to fix and you could also do what Rugby League do, not let players question referee's decisions.

This
Nowt at all to do with age.

Them fellas weren't always that old but they've always been crap refs
And This

No surprise that none were selected for the World Cup and all sorts of Reffs from various 'small' footballing countries were.
Ours are seriously crap

Genuinely can’t wait to see the back of Moss, Atkinson and eventually that Oliver.

That Oliver was a decent ref, but like Clattenburg, let the “fame” go to his head, and is now an atrocious ref.

Referees should be forced to wear hoods/masks like executioners to stop the muppets thinking that being within 10 yards of some of the most talented athletes on the planet makes you, by proxy, equally important.

That is the most poisonous thing infecting officials, ego.

Absolutely, our refs used to be the benchmark imo, that's one of the reasons I want the refs in from other European countries, to mix and learn from each other.
Every Country in theory plays the same FIFA rules / tune
The Reffs aka 'the piper' are paid by the PL
He who pays the piper calls the tune.
The PL have their own perculiar variation on a theme for the basic FIFA tune.
But It's a bit like one of those 'variations on a theme' things that nobody can actually guess what the original theme was.

And its as bent as 'K

The more I think about it, the more I think that referees should officiate in other leagues is a good idea to standardise the interpretation of the rules of the game.

I wouldn't let a continental club tournament official be anyone who hadn't officiated satisfactorily in another country or countries within that continent on a regular basis over the previous season or two.

And experience at continental club tournament level to a satisfactory standard would be a must to officiate at international level. And major international tournaments should also require a certain level of language skills that allow for effective communication on the pitch - that would only be knowing how to speak a few key phrases to ensure that you were understood and what decisions were on pitch.

None of those should be too onerous for a decent referee or linesperson to obtain. I wouldn't expect many English ones though with that.
