The rain, it raineth every day
In Spain and Germany referees retire at 47. France encourages referees between 43- 46 to retire. In Italy it's 46.

Here, because we know best, we have :

Jon Moss - 50 next month.
Lee Mason - 49 next month
Mike Dean - 52
Martin Atkinson - 49
Graham Scott - 52
Kevin Friend - 49
Andre Mariner - 49

I'd love to see a video of the exhaustive tests they must go through to judge their fitness and performance.

Still have them over half of our squad.

Really feel that since referee's became professional, the standard has grown gradually worse, have no confidence in them at all. Too many are starstruck with team names, reputation and stars in these Big teams, would like to see European refs moved to different leagues to try and combat this. The language barrier would not take that much time to fix and you could also do what Rugby League do, not let players question referee's decisions.

Because of modern fitness levels, just lie 29 isn't to old to buy a multi million pound footballer, 49 isn't to old to be a referee.
The standards of those refs is another matter entirely.

It's nothing to do with their fitness: the issue is that they're a closed shop who are regulated by the PGMOL - all ex-referees - so they look after themselves.

There is no accountability: if there are errors and mistakes then the lengths they go to defend them with questionable outcomes, if there are any, is ridiculous.

The best way to rectify the situation we're in is to replace the PGMOL or at least make significant changes, so it's not founded on nepotism and has accountability.

Like with rugby, we should be aiming for any communication between the referee and players at the higher levels being audible and especially with VAR.

because they now have professional contracts, is almost as if they have to tow the party line and support 'the good for the game' assistance to the big name clubs and give them the benefit of any doubt.

And sure enough the five of them at the top of that list are the very worst of a very bad bunch!
