Doesn't come close to Turkish atmospheres etc, it's all a bit timid and English in comparison.

I had a week's holiday in Istanbul last December and took in all 4 Premier league clubs (Istanbul BB at the Ataturk, then Fenerbache (that's the "2 matches, 2 continents in 1 day" box ticked b), Galatasaray and finally Besiktas).

The atmosphere at each of the big 3 was pure bedlam, and Fenerbahce in particular made the hairs on my neck stand on end. I've seen football all over the shop, but never encountered anything like that place. I've heard it's only second to Buenos Aires.

And anyone who understimates how much they care about the result needs to get out there and see for themselves.

We're just so British, it's the way we roll. Having said that, Goodison has been particularly bad recently and can't see how it will get better when you got "super fans" glaring at anyone who doesn't spout the same crap as them. Some old bird glaring at my 7 year old son for singing the other day.
