if anyone can think of a more mental set of circumstances than the bell runout and its aftermath in modern cricket then please elaborate me, just watching it has done my head in.

Bells out now anyway, but Dhoni was a mug to let him off. You shouldnt give a batsman his wicket back for doing something stupid.

Not having that. It was an honest misunderstanding and while Dhoni was by no means obliged to let him off for it, it's nothing but classy that he did.

If Dhoni hadn't done that then the rest of the series would be entriely unsporting and bad tempered, because he showed a bit od grace England will have to as well and the whole thing will be much more good natured and pleasant. Next time India get a bad or unlucky call, you can bet the english team will let them off.

That's cos it is a gentlemans game that has rules about the spirit in which a game should be played. Like declaring, a team should only declare if the opposition has a sporting chance.

I've been watching it on and off. I don't really understand cricket but I enjoy the entertainment value of it.
I hate the excessive amount of popped collars on our team though - bit embarassing.

There was plenty of 'sledging' on the wicket today, specific to Morgan it appears. The crowd was awesome, rattling their fielders, did laugh at the geezer that took a bow. As for the Bell runout, technically he was out but had India pressed home that advantage it would have been held against them by the rest of the cricketing community. The last 'silly bolloxx' moment I can remember from an England batsman forgetting the rules was on a tour of India or Sri Lanka or somewhere very near by where a shot was played and missed and the ball was in the batsmans lap/pads and he removed it with his hand - which isn't allowed, the bowler claimed it and he was given out. Can kick the ball away or brush the ball away with the bat but are not allowed to use your hands. in direct contact with the ball.

A lot of footballers could take a look at Dhoni today and take note as to what playing a game is actually all about, fantastic sportsmanship.

Similar thing happened to Muralitharan a couple of years ago against NZ, went to celebrate his fellow batsman's hundred but the ball was still live and McCullum whipped off the bails. Vettori was quick to call him back though.
