Player Valuation: £40m
With the world cup aproaching i thought i would start a thread regarding the contenders for the squad for 2014.
the ranking of the player will be on my opinion the most in form players in there position/ importance to the team and not based on club played for or how many caps they have. After every round of premier league games i will update this with new entrys, re entrys and what rank they are, it could be interesting to see how the squad could be perceaved now and what the final outcome may be.
Note-players who are injured are automaticaly exempt

1) Wayne Rooney- Still englands best player
2)Steven Gerrard - Will be captain and playing well in a deeper roll even after a shaky game v villa a few weeks back
3)Joe Hart- After a form dip has come back into the city team stronger and got his concentration back
4)Daniel Sturridge - Gaurentees goals and at the moment englands best choice as centre forward, can he transfer his club form on the international stage
5)Gary Cahill - In the heart of the best defence in the league and got stronger during qualification
6)Adam Lallana - Everything southampton do well usualy has him involved, really grown as a player this season
7)Kyle Walker - Spurs' form and a return to fitness have helped him, still seems best bet at right back at the moment
8)Leighton Baines - Just returned from injury and picking his form back up, Ashley Cole not playing for chelsea moves Baines to first choice left back
9)Raheem Sterling - Would he of got a mention 3 months ago? On fire at the minute in an in form explosive liverpool team who play to his strengths, will England play to them though?
10)Phil Jagielka - Like his club mate Baines, returned from injury and taking time to get back to full fitness, before his injury would be a similar rank to Cahill
11)Ben Foster- Some strong home results for WBA, and at the moment best choice as understudy to Hart
12)Jack Whilshere- Poor v Liverpool (who wasent) but showed good form before that game, still needs to live up to the hype though
13)Jordan Henderson- Again, palying for an inform team is helping him and at the moment unfortunately that inform team is Liverpool, plenty of workrate
14)Michael Carrick - A good back up for Gerrard, still united's most consitent performer
15)Ricky Lambert- Indifferent form at begining of the season but is starting to score a couple of goals, good 2nd choice to sturridge (with carrol suspended at the moment Lambert is a shoe in)
16)Phil Jones - Needs to play at centre back more but his flexibility will help in a tournament, would head a brick wall
17)Jon Flanagan - Looks like plug and can be limited but solid defensively and gets up and down that line well, as with Henderson playing for an in form team helps
18)Luke Shaw - Playing week in week out puts him ahead of Cole
19)Adam Johnson - Last months player of the month, dont rate him personally but is in there purely on form
20)Ross Barkley - Has just returned to injury and needs to build his fitness up, still best choice as back up for rooney behind the striker
21)Frazer Forster - Betweeen him and John Ruddy as 3rd choice, after that maybe Richard Wright
22) Steven Caulker - Playing for a team out of form is not showing how good he has been this season
23)Jay Rodriguez - Scored some important and quality goals recently, didnt look to impressive in last england run out but deserves another shout.

As i have said this is not what i think the squad will/should be but more if a squad was to get picked tomorow who on form i think should be in it.
Thoughts, oh John Terry i have kept away cos he is a bell whiff and his face gradually melts while playing a football match

GK: Hart, Foster, Forster
DF: Jagielka, Cahill, Jones, Walker, Baines, Shaw, Davies,
MF: Gerrard, Townsend, Barkley, Carrick, Wilshere, Lallana, Henderson, Sterling, Milner, Oxlade-Chamberlain
ST: Rooney, Sturridge, Rodriguez, Carroll/Lambert

This is just my random guess, is that even 24 players?

Either way it's gonna be wrong cause we need to insert Cleverley, Smalling and Cole somewhere

Obviously i think between now and the nd of the season, some players will drop out of that list and some will pop up into it.
Personally i think it would be ace to maybe take 4/5 experienced players (Gerrard, Lampard, Rooney, Hart) then another 3/4 mid 20's early 30's (Jags, Cahill, Baines) and then fill the rest with players under 24, the pressure would be off and the majority would be fearless kids with the odd old head around them to help them when needed, build for the next few tournements

I think Roy has already come out and said his plans arent really going to change from the last games in reagrds to the squad. I think he already knows who he wants to take with him and form/injuries permitting they will go.

I always think though that England completely disregard players form for slotting them into their preferred 11. Take for example Baines, he will play straight left back role with a little allowance for getting forward. However a little far left here but play milner in the Piennar role and give Baines the feedom of the left to be creative. Milner doesnt have to be all Lionel messi in the game, or even do anything out of the ordinary, but it would allow Baines to really come into the game.

Same as up front. Play a front 3 so to speak with Sturridge and stirling as part of it. They have been in great form together for club so rather than stick Welbeck in there because of who he plays for, play them and perhaps they can link up like they do for their club.

another little thought would be if they can keep it up, take Rodgers tactics over there with him to use in games. Not the being bell ends part, but the going out at dominating teams i nthe first 20 minutes as they seem to be doing, imagine a knockout game agianst Italy/Portugal/Germany/France where we are underdogs and in the first 20 minutes we are 2 up and can command the game from that point on?

Dont take that as praise for them alot, i just think if we were to have any success this summer we need to win the big games in the first 20-30 minutes as Italy proved Roy hasn't got a clue over the 90 (or 120)

Curious about this, do you all think that the high number of foreign-born players in the Prem hurts the development of English nationals?

At the end of the day, only 220 people can say that they are on the starting XI for a Premier League team, and those in an English team academy have more outside competition than those in Spain or Germany. And I don't see many examples of English players going to a continental top flight instead of trying to make it in England.

The difference between our youth and other countries is not foreign talent but money.

Probably mentioned this before but Germany won the 2009 under 21 world cup beating England 4-0 in the final. The following year the senior team took a lot of their under 21 winning squad to the world cup and what was the end result? They beat us 4-1.

In comparison look at our under 21's, how many are actually even playing top flight football never mind first team football? If clubs aren't playing them in the top flight then they will never develop for the international team.

I'm not sure that too many people will be all that interested to hear what I think but I couldn't care less about international football.

Just saying like...................
