England possible hosts of 2022 World Cup

Press reports being floated that Qatar could lose the 2022 World Cup if it's proved by the corruption enquiry into FIFA that they paid bribes to FIFA during the bidding process. England being named as a possible alternative host.

Can't see it myself ?.

The best angle for all the FA's to take now would be 'we have no confidence that WC2022 was awarded in good faith. With this in mind, the additional toll of the hot weather plus the disruption to season schedules means they should be relocated away from Qatar'.

Corruption alone won't win the argument, but the other factors should sway it.

Would still probably like to see Australia host it though. They probably already have the infrastructure too, if they use AFL, rugby and cricket stadia.

Dont see why it should immediately go to England. Loads of other places already have the infrastructure, like above said, Australia. Wouldnt mind it if it did tho.

I guess what I am saying is as long as its not Qatar then that is fine.

If it does get moved it should go to a revote, not get handed to any country automatically.

They stepped in when Colombia were unable to host it. Don't know the specifics of the reasons why Colombia stepped out or why Mexico stepped in, but no revote took place.

Think we've got more chance of getting 2018 personally (but even that is highly unlikely). If Russia keep 2018 then no way another European nation will get 2022. If 2018 is taken off Russia we are in a good position infrastructure-wise to step in at short notice.

Should both go to a revote though if corruption is proven and I'd quite like to see Australia get one of them.

Officially it seems to be that Colombia just couldn't afford to host it. Assuming Mexico got it as they had hosted one recently and so were well placed to host again in the region.

EDIT: Scratch that second point. Mexico, Canada and USA bid for it when Colombia pulled out and Mexico won.

Thanks for info. I could see how that would make sense of it was short notice (ie Russia in 3 years) but Qatar is 7 years off. Think most if not all the other finalists (Aus, U.S., South Korea, and Japan) could be ready in that time.
