Lord Buckethead

Player Valuation: £35m
Gareth Southgate is keen for his England players to excite the Wembley crowd during Monday's 2018 World Cup qualifier with Slovakia.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/41070207

"We have some exciting players and we want to show that," said Southgate.

"We have a responsibility to get the Wembley crowd on their feet but equally, everywhere we go in the world the home crowd give the team a lift. It will be great if we can get the level of support that stadium can bring.

Then he goes and picks teams like this last Friday

  • 1 Hart
  • 2 Walker
  • 5 Cahill
  • 6 Jones
  • 3 Bertrand
  • 8 Livermore
  • 4 Henderson (c)
  • 11 Oxlade-Chamberlain
  • 10 Alli
  • 7 Sterling
  • 9 Kane

Is the the worst England team you can remember?
If we have, like Southgate says "some exciting players" why doesn't he pick them?
Horrendouson as Captain???
What's with half the RS getting free passes into the team ever since Bodgeson was in charge
How is Southgate our best Managerial offering? is it that he's cheap? or does he just look sensible and likes wearing blazers the most?

This is why people can't be arsed with International Football.

What changes would you make (apart from Horrendouson's Nationality).

Predictions of the Team/Score/Fallout for tonight please.

Bring Gazza back

Why do other nationalities like their National Team more than the Englanders like their team?

Because English football is more tribal I guess

As an Evertonian, England give me no reason to care about them

Everton players either don't get picked, do get picked but hardly play or do get picked and then subsequently blamed when things go wrong

They give me nothing as an Evertonian to bring me on board these days. England call ups are based on the club shirt you wear over everything else. Wilshire going to the Euro's over Drinkwater in 2016 is perfect proof of that. One of them was a key figure in winning the title and the other had been out most of the season and wasn't fit. But he also played for Arsenal, so he got the call up

The day England players are picked on merit and clubs from all over the spectrum are treated fairly is the day I'll start caring again. Until that day, I'm supporting the other home nations and Ireland

Why do other nationalities like their National Team more than the Englanders like their team?

Because one Englishman just has to open his mouth and speak for another Englishman to hate him.

Factionalism and Regionalism thrive in this country.

And I think Scousers are particularly apathetic to the national team as the supporters of other clubs do nowt but insult us and our city as we travel around England for away matches.

On the bigger scale, I don't understand how fans of the bigger teams can go from loathing a player with a rival team every other day but love him when he is playing for England :)

He's the FA's yesman.

Gareth Southgate's finest moment was having a bag over his head as he profited from missing a penalty.

He makes me sad not just for England, but for humanity. He makes watching football feel like being in a doctor's waiting room waiting for a sick relative to pass away. I can't wait for him to become Sir Gareth Southgate as this will finally bring about the end of the Honours List due to everyone else giving theirs back because he is so unworthy of note.

He played for Boro, then managed them into oblivion. And now is in charge of England trying to bring around the same outcome by the look of it. Even his voice has the tonality of an old washing machine on a damp bank holiday when you realise you are broke and only have a pot noodle to last you until tomorrow and the only entertainment you have on offer is scraping the mold from your window sill in case it's hallucinogenic.

I'm sorry, this was meant to be about the national team? I'd love for them to do well and unite the country in a sun filled summer as they exilerate and promise us a glimpse of victory and a BBC commentary box full of ex pros jumping up and down like deranged gibbons. Unfortunately this ain't happening soon with the Sir Gareth Boringgate in charge. I can't wait until Spurs superstar Dross Barkley gets a starring role in Russia next year and loses the ball in his own half to take us tumbling out of the world cup in the first round (round of 128 in the new FIFA set up) after the mini leagues have been concluded.

Buh-effing-rilliant. At least the Barmy Army from Crawley can sing anti IRA songs and express their desires for returning to the glory days of being at war with Europe and then throw a deck chair or two.

Bah humbug.

The problem with the England team is the big wigs at the English FA. It's criminal how Brian clough was never England manager , Terry Venables should have been in charge for years.... after him somebody like Arry Redknapp should have had a shot.. he would get more out of that bunch of stiffs than southgate ever will. They need to stop picking yes men and just pick the best man for the job. Somebody who has the balls to pick players on performance not reputation.
