You know, like the Moore/Pele photo from 1970, Maradonna in 86, Gazzas tears in 1990, the Cruyf turn, the tickertape in Argentina in 78.

2014?

For me, (with a final to come, I know), was the RVP header. I have never seen anything like that before. The way he lands, still looking at the ball, with both hands cushioning his fall like a gymnast in a floor routine. Just a brilliant image.

Oh, and the Rat, of course.

So not "the best", but the most enduring image that will last the test of time.

Germany being 5-0 up inside half an hour.

Brazil being un-Brazilian, playing gash, negative, moaning, snappy, rubbish football then moaning about tackles against them, then ultimately it ending in tears, as justice was served.

Almost every big name player disappointing, along with many big teams, but that not being a problem due to the competitiveness of the tournament and the multitude of written off teams playing above expectation.
