Empty seats in Turf Moor!

I watched the highlights in Burnley vs Saints. I felt the stadium was empty. Turf Moor has the capacity of only 22,546 people.

Why are there so many empty seats then? Burnley are now having a good time, shouldn't there be full house? Or they have upped the ticket price out of reach of the locals or is it just because it's a game against not the biggest club in the country?

@Kurt

I'd say this is a challenge to your niche

Are you sure it wasn't just behind the goal where the away fans would have been segregated as they would have probably took a smaller allocation with it being a bit of a hike.

Yes, behind the goal it's totally empty, but I also noticed considerable portions of empty seats even in other parts of the stadium. May be I'm being too pedantic, but I felt Burnley crowd should be buzzing and full house, which it didn't seem. After all, Burnley are exceeding expectations now.

They can't spare the 90 minutes round that way: their sisters aren't going to impregnate themselves are they?

You can't fool all of the people all of the time. Burnley will be lucky to stay up.

Middelsborough are the same. Watching a quick bit of their game vs derby and an entire stand it seems was empty. Either so few derby fans traveled or they have got no fans. but then uefa cup games were the same back then.

Perhaps because like most Lancashire towns the population do not support their local teams. They jump on the glory hunters bandwagon and support Man Utd

There are plenty of 'glory hunters' in Merseyside and surrounding areas, AND London (Millwall fans now supporting Chelsea etc). Don't tarnish all footy fans from Lancs with the same brush.

Burnley is a small town, with high unemployment. The probable reason for Turfmoor being half empty is due to it being close to Xmas and the locals not having the money that, for example, people in London would have to spunk on going to the footy. It's at least £30 per ticket to watch a Prem League game these days, so for a couple or family that's going to be expensive.

Plus it's Southampton coming to town. No disrespect to them, I enjoy watching them play - but it doesn't have the pull of Chelsea, Man Utd or Arsenal visiting.

Lots of empty seats at most games these days. Hopefully we have reached the tipping point for fans that actually attend matches & they are voting with their wallets.

Hopefully. The working class man needs to be attending the game again. Not my retired father-in-law who's got lots of spare cash & time, and never gets out of his seat to sing, or make a sound.

Do you ever think that we blew it in the 80's with all the hooliganism?

Good bit in Fever Pitch about that actually. The working men had football to themselves and were so irresponsible with that privelidge that the clubs started courting the middle class and families as a direct consequence.

The Taylor Report was the beginning of the end in some ways
