In the hope that 1 Day we stop playing 4-5-1, plus even you agreed hes better than Beckford.

Even if we did stop playing 4-5-1 (ha!) we'd have another issue.

He needs a strike partner. Saha is the only decent candidate on the books and his knees are made out of landmines. I'd mention Yakubu but if he doesn't go this window I'll eat my collection of large, novelty hats.

And then with our finances, or lack thereof, we'd not be able to afford a partner for Defoe. I do believe with sales we could afford Defoe, but that's why I wouldn't want him, because that's all we'd be able to afford and Defoe on his own would do us no good at all.

Defoe's been living on his reputation for a while. Been worse than Beckford over the last year or so.

I think he was injured recently though wasn't he?

You do have a point though. People think "ooooh Defoe -- I've actually heard of him". In reality he looks past his best.

Wouldn't want any of Spurs strikers really. Pav maybe, but he's something of an enigma. Really, really inconsistant but capable of brilliance. Like Billy but a striker TBH, and that's not just a lazy comparison because they're both Russian.

Oh wow, we were really desperate for a striker back then.

I won't be vaulted!

At that point, Pavyluchenko had just scored 14 goals in 39 games that season (10 in 29 in the league). Solid-ish.

Meanwhile we had: Beckford, Saha, Anichebe and Vellios.

Pavyluchenko was better than all of them.

But yeah, makes you feel very lucky to have Rom.

I'm not sure how old Pav is but I thought he was ace on Spuds. I never knew why he always seemed to be on the bench.
