Emile Heskey

Was Heskey overrated or underrated? A lot of coaches rated him and in all fairness played a lot of games at a high level. Personally I thought he was a carthorse, but what do I know?

"Romelu Lukaku is big and strong and he hits hot streaks at times. But he's the Belgian Emile Heskey. Is he the man that's going to push United back to the summit in England and in Europe? No chance. Remember, United have lost Wayne Rooney and Zlatan Ibrahimovic they scored 23 Premier League goals between them last season, with the Swede accounting for the bulk of that tally. So, is Lukaku going to be a game changer? They need him to chip in with at least 20 goals just to replace what they've lost. Maybe Mourinho will get his hands on a couple of top class players, but I wouldn't bet on it."

Henskey's biggest problem imo, was that he was naturally a nice guy and didn't have an ounce of snide in him.

If he'd had that nasty edge to him, he would've been up there.

He had pace, touch and was a proper team player, hence why he was often played out of position as almost a link up man.

He lived by us for quite a while.

Lovely fella when he was out and about, but seemed very shy.

Was it his parents, that said "on a bad day you can see Goodison from here" ?
think it was on the introduction for MOTD.?

Because they're both black and it's a lazy assumption.

Why can't it ever be "Oh Heskey was a Dean Ashton lite" or some other similar player, always has to resort to "oh he's a insert other big black strikers name lite"
Now dean Ashton
He could've been a great player
Only if he never went to West Ham

I always thought the stick dished out to Heskey was unwarranted, when he started out he was more like the biggest goal scoring winger you have ever seen and had great speed in his youth, as he progressed he was then moved into the middle, his goals tailed off but ( and the 5-1 defeat of Germany was the perfect example) he became a more than useful target man and brought into play the likes of Owen who scored plenty of goals off the back of his hard work.

As said previously there were plenty of good coaches who rated him and he played at the top into his late 30's so he must have had something about him, take away the fact he played for the RS I think at his peak he was more than a useful player.
