New thread as old on is....well too old.

Anyway - fat white middle aged bloke here.

Young feller fancies Skyrim for Christmas. He is 12. What's the sketch....it is a 15 certificate but seems to be a bit of Fantasy violence, dragons and stuff. Is it ok in this regard. Also is it just single player or will he want to on the web doing the Multiwatsitthing.

There also seems to be a box set of sorts with some expansion packs. Any good ?

He has an XBox 360

Help me GOT your my only hope

Be really careful - lots of the mods (not micknick type ones obvs) are very shady for it

I'd say its suitable for someone his age mate as there isn't any sweating n it and the violence is pretty mild compared to a GTA or CoD type game. There is a lot of reading involved though. It's only single player with no coop or online modes available. Depends on the price difference as to whether it would be worth getting the box set. If it's a few quid more I'd say yeah but the expansions only generally last an hour or two each. If you know someone who has the box set I think you can install the expansions off their disk DRM free (at least I know you could with elder scrolls 4 and many other games that had disks of expansion packs)

Huge game world. Lots to do. The expansion packs add another few hours onto an already huge game if you do all the side quests etc. It's not really violent to the point of lots of gore and swear words etc, just some little parts of the combat can be a tad nasty depending on the weapon and level of your character. But they're not like Fallout where heads rolled around if I remember correctly.

Watch gameplay videos on YouTube if you want to see if it is too violent.

Oh, yes it's just single player.

Because its the xbox version, you won't run into any of the weird modifications people make for the game on the computer, like making all of the characters nude, so you won't have to worry about that. It's a pretty violent game, some decapitations, but it's not too realistic looking. It is a very cool and enjoyable game though. You'd probably have some fun playing it too when he's not haha

Also since it's single player, your son won't have to deal with all the foul-mouthed teens that plague the online xbox games like Call of Duty saying awful things.

Having grown up on its predecessor, Morrowind, Skyrim is the type of game to dazzle and engage the imaginative mind of a 12 year old in all the right ways. The game is positively massive and offers almost unparalleled freedom (Minecraft wins there). My only warning is that it has the potential to really suck you in, so you might want to monitor how much he's playing, but that's totally up to you. As for the expansion packs, defo hold off on them until he's well into the game- then you basically have a nailed on gifts for next year.

Essentially, if you're cool letting him watch the Lord of the Rings movies, then go for it. It's a comparable level of adventure badassery and of violence.

Skyrim is absolutely incredible. It's the best game I've ever played and I dedicated an obscene amount of hours to its completion.

Buy this, especially if you don't really want your son to leave the house and mix with the wrong crowds or you don't want to see your son for a few months. When playing its predecessors at his kind of age it was so good I forgot how to masturbate.

at a time? you prole. enchant levitate, constant effect was where the real flying action was at.

Lad. Levitate is slow as feck even if you fortify speed. Jumping just launches you across the map (1pt slowfall to avoid imminent death on reentry).

Superman jumping mountains.

Also, yes let him play Skyrim. My 9 year old plays it and he loves it. There is no real gore, maybe the odd scary looking monster, but nothing too extreme. No swearing or nudity. No banging hookers, then killing them and robbing the body.

Mind you there is still killing and robbing the body, just no hookers to bang.

On the flip side there is a strong sense of justice. Just try killing that chicken in the middle of town and see where it gets you........
