An aspiring Everton FC football coach has been charged with sexual assault after a 21-year-old woman was allegedly sexually assaulted in broad daylight.
The young woman was walking near Sandfield Park Primary School in West Derby when she says she was silently attacked from behind.
Callum Jamieson, 18, of Dacy Road, appeared in court today and pleaded not guilty to a single charge of sexual assault.
The alleged attack happened just minutes from a primary school, close to Alder Hey Children’s hospital and St. Edward’s school while the woman was walking along South Drive, West Derby at 4pm on Wednesday afternoon.
Parents spoke of their shock at the incident so close to their children’s schools.
One woman, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “All kids in St. Edward’s were given letters today. It could have very easily been a child.”
Another added: “Its a really quiet road. I feel nervous when walking up on my own. It’s awful that you feel nervous walking to collect your children from school.”
Parents have been given letters warning their children to be vigilant in the area after the vicious attack.
Jamieson, of Dacy Road, Everton, was arrested by Merseyside Police while on his bike on Queen’s Drive near the junction with North Drive.
He was remanded in custody and will appear before Liverpool Crown Court on February 6.
