He's been the 2nd largest shareholder at Everton for over 8 years and owns 23% of the club (2% less than Kenwright) and this is only the 2nd time in all that time he's publicly addressed owning us in a tv interview, on a late night NBC chat show a few weeks ago:

The irony of him jokingly having a go at the West Ham-supporting American host for not going to a match is hilarious.

Not so hilarious is him portraying Everton fans as death threat-issuing morons who expose themselves.

Seth Meyers slip effortlessly into the mantle vacated by Michael Parkinson

Bell and Beller.

I struggle with the idea of a massively wealthy benefactor a là Man City, and am terrified of a Vincent Tan/Venky project etc. An Abramovich type, I could almost stomach as he at least is seen and takes an active interest in the club.

What's that I hear no one say? What about John Moores and his cash in the 60's? Well, I'm glad you (didn't) ask - he was an Evertonian, simple as that, and he had the clubs' best interest at heart (although it's seldom mentioned that he also maintained at arms length, a minority holding in LFC).

He was a blue, who had Evertonians as managers, most notably Harry Catterick who was more blue than most. That's why I see little comparison with Moores and the rich owners of today. Rant over.

*hello board thread, where have you been......

How big a blue he was is anyone's guess. It appears to me he was just a Man Utd supporting Mancunian who recognised that Everton were the bigger club in the locality he had his business head-quartered in and moved to take ownership of it. His type (the gambling industry) would have had the founders of Everton turning in their graves. They hated that spiv business class of people. And Moores was a horrible man too. He was every bit the outsider to Everton then as some Sheik is to City today.
